"The Wallowas—too unique, too beautiful, too close not to experience throughout the seasons"

Leave the fast pace and fenced-in views of urban America and wake up to winter in the Wallowas! As the chill heaps, the first powder blanket of snow over the backcountry of the Wallowas – the look and feel in Wallowa County is adventurous. Our wilderness backdrop is perfect for a day of snowshoeing. For the more spirited Nordic skier or snowmobile enthusiasts, hit the mountains at the Salt Creek Sno-Park. The cold days are made easier at the Sno-Park with a warming hut, easy parking, and restrooms. The Wallowas is where you’ll find the solitude and adventure every winter sportsperson craves. Be sure to get January 21-24th on your 2015 calendar for the Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog Race. This is Oregon’s only Iditarod and Yukon Quest Qualifier! After a day in the backcountry, return to your cabin for a quiet retreat and relax in front of a warm, crackling fire with that special someone or your family or that group of fun-loving friends you enjoyed the day. There are a plethora of village gift shops, galleries, pubs, and restaurants open for you to experience the flavor of Wallowa County. The Wallowa Mountains have a near-limitless winter playground to explore. Tunesmith Night, Saturday, December 14, 2024, 7pm Odd Fellows Hall, 105 NE First Street, Enterprise, Oregon

The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance continues the 19th season of Tunesmith Night, a showcase of original music. The concert features three songwriters sharing their original work in a round-robin format, at the historic Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall. The unique listening space provides an up-close and intimate experience for both audience and performers.

The Saturday, December 14th concert features Sara Irene Smith, Kate Turner and James Dean Kindle. Doors open at 6:30pm with music starting at 7pm. Admission is $10. Beverage service available.

Sara Irene Smith has been playing piano, singing and writing songs since childhood. Songwriting workshops in L.A. and Nashville have helped her develop the craft of songwriting. Listeners will notice her songs carry themes of mountains, nature and rural life in Oregon. Sara has made several recordings including a full CD entitled “Big Dreams”.

Singer-songwriter Kate Turner from Tri-Cities, Washington, will be debuting music from her third and brand new Ep “Men like you” her first release in nearly 12 years. Kate released two EP albums previously, “Baby No” and “The Side Project” - and in 2024 re-released her popular single “Please.” Kate has shared the stage as an opening act with artists like Tim McGraw, Parmalee, Sawyer Brown, Gretchen Wilson and numerous national acts. Considered a non-traditional country artist, Kate is a pianist who started her career as both a country and jazz singer. Kate writes and draws inspiration from artists and songwriters like Hank Williams, Sarah Buxton, Norah Jones, and Sturgill Simpson.

James Dean Kindle is a singer, songwriter, and performer born and residing in Pendleton, OR – a town most often associated with wool blankets and one of the world’s top rodeos. His eclectic approach to music performance and composition blurs the boundaries between country, folk, jazz, latin genres, and experimental music, and occupies the liminal space between high art and popular music. As both a solo artist and with his backing rock band The Eastern Oregon Playboys and as a member of the Baker City noise-collective Swäwm Pass James has released several full length albums and singles and performed in venues and festivals across the Pacific Northwest (Treefort, Jackalope Jamboree, Electric Fences) and internationally (Japan and Germany). James has recently released his first full-length album in six years,“Trail Mix” In 2022 he performed as one of many Johnny Cashs in the Elgin Opera House's production of “Ring of Fire” When not performing, recording or teaching private music lessons, James serves as Executive Director of the Oregon East Symphony.
