What a day ! After our early wake up call because of a mama bear and her cub in front of the glacier we made our way to Alkefjellet where we cruised admiring the sublime cliffs home of 60 000 pairs of Brünnich’s Guillemots. This afternoon whilst getting ready to land in Torellneset all the gear half loaded in our expedition boats a radio call came in …. Polar bear at our landing site ! So plan B ! We stayed on the ship enjoying the incredible weather watching closely our bear having a nice meal not so far from a group of walrus.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring but one sure thing is that this trip has been full of wonderful sightings and amazing experiences. This morning we landed in Burgerbukta and enjoyed the peaceful views of the glacier with the mist coming down and this afternoon our cruising in Samarinvågen was full of surprises!

Yesterday afternoon our guests had the option of exploring the area around Staffa Island by zodiac or foot. Those who chose zodiac viewed puffins on the water and explored the depths of Fingal’s Cave. For those who braved the steep stairs of the landing, peeking into the cave was overshadowed by the overwhelming encounters of puffins as they played in the tall grasses of the cliff side. What a day! 🥰🥰🥰 After a beautiful morning on the peaceful Iona we had the joy of being accompanied by playful bottlenose dolphins on our way back to the ship. This afternoon our guests went searching for puffins either by zodiac around Staffa or on land. It’s safe to say no one was disappointed 😍

Celebrating the constitution day on St Kilda in the Outer Hebrides. Not many people have set foot on this island, but MS Spitsbergen was so fortunate that we got to go ashore and celebrate the national day of Norway.
The day started with the hoisting of the flag by Captain, we sailed past the stacks with traditional snacks on deck, and ended the celebration with a parade in the historic streets of St Kilda.

Happy New Year from crew and guests at Spits outside Bissagos Isl, Guinea Bissau in West Africa🥳🥳🚀

Warm breezes and choppy seas made for some challenging wildlife watches as MS Spitsbergen ventured southward towards Dakar. Sharks, Atlantic spotted dolphins, ocean sunfish, and even a turtle could be spotted beneath the surface but none were as entertaining as these flying fish who could be seen gliding 50 meters or more just above the waves. 🎥Kevin Snair

Vibrant colours were the order of the day as MS Spitsbergen made her inaugural visit to Funchal, Madeira. From cobblestone walkways, mouth-watering pastry shops, and open-air markets, downtown offered a little something for everyone. For a peek at the local wildlife, a short gondola ride up into the hillside was the perfect escape. Excitement is building, knowing this is but a teaser for what is to come as we venture further south towards the Canary Islands.
