Scenic City Properties (SCP) is a family-owned and operated business offering charming short-term vacation rentals and long-term property rentals in Chattanooga, Tennessee for five years now, and counting.
Besides being in the list of Lonely Planet’s “10 United States destinations you need to see”, this southeastern Tennessee city is also the place where SCP owners Jim and Pat Hangstefer started their family. Chattanooga, officially touted as the “Scenic City” because of its grand mountains and gorgeous ridges, is and will always be their home.
Chattanooga is also home to more than 180,000 locals and transplants all of whom are committed to redefining warm Southern charm within a close-knit community. Its relatively small population belies its huge welcoming heart to visitors and travelers.
Come to Chattanooga, the state’s fourth-largest city, and see for yourself how it is slowly but surely forging its unique local identity.
Specifically, Jim and Pat invite you to the homey neighborhoods of St. Elmo and Fort Wood. These distinctly historic districts made it in the Best Old-House Neighborhoods list of the four-decade-long PBS show “This Old House”. Fifty-one of the United States areas which made it in the list were chosen by “This Old House Editors” because they are sure to “charm you from the first moment you see them”.
St. Elmo and Fort Wood are no different. Their appeal stems not only from their convenient proximity to downtown, nor its picturesque views of Lookout Mountain. Their evident beauty is primarily due to their rich architectural legacy.
Lovely Victorian homes dot the areas’ tranquil tree-lined streets.
Late nineteenth-century buildings are elegantly preserved.
Owners Jim and Pat cherish and care for seven properties in both St. Elmo and Fort Wood. The period houses they offer have been restored to their original splendor, they can almost be considered as national treasures.
These properties have been specially rebuilt to deliver downhome comfort and budget-friendly Southern hospitality.
Owners Jim and Pat decided to offer rental properties in the St. Elmo area not just because Pat’s father grew up at the foot of the nearby Lookout Mountain, it is also because they love everything about St. Elmo.
We’re sure you’ll love St. Elmo too!
Walkable thrills, laidback nature strolls, and adventure-filled wanderings for all ages can be had in St. Elmo. Point Park, Incline Railway, Ruby Falls, as well as a slew of hiking and biking trails are minutes away from SCP’s cozy two-bedroom and three-bedroom rentals.
Come home to a welcoming abode and feel free to put your feet up in any of SCP’s six St. Elmo properties. Experience comfy living rooms, conveniently clean bathrooms, and cozy dining areas. Available amenities are ovens, microwaves, fridges, and washing machines.
Kids can also roam free in the spacious backyards, while groups can enjoy the outdoor grills, picnic tables, and the front porch swings. Feel at home while being away from home as the sparkling veranda lights power on come nightfall.
The properties are ideal weekend getaways for family gatherings or friendly get-togethers.
Jim and Pat have renters’ comfort in mind when they completely renovated their Fort Wood property to accommodate a maximum of four. This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home was built in 1902 and has been modernized to provide guests with an elegantly affordable retreat.
Head into SCP’s Fort Wood Property in Oak Street to soundly slumber on the king bed in the master bedroom or in any of the two single beds in the second bedroom after a tour of the area’s various Victorian-style brick houses - Fort Wood was the first in Chattanooga to be designated as a local historic district.
Chill in this restful holiday home’s airy living room after a leisurely wander through the 13-mile path of the Tennessee Riverwalk.
The Fort Wood flat is also a block away from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and mere minutes from the River View Arts District/Bluff View Arts District.
This home away from home has games, books, toys, and internet access available anytime. A screened front porch, picnic table, washer and dryer, kitchen, fridge, microwave, hob are provided as ready amenities.
SCP’s Fort Wood property makes it easy for couples, friends or families to immerse themselves in the laid-back vibe of Chattanooga.
Pat, her daughter Emily, and daughter-in-law Erin, personally take care of all seven Chattanooga properties. They make sure the homes are well-stocked, spick-and-span, and - in the words of a visitor who stayed in one of the properties - “meticulously cared for”.
Airbnb, who classified Pat as a Superhost since 2017, similarly agrees. Superhosts in Airbnb are experienced, highly rated hosts who are committed to providing great stays for guests.
SCP has received hundreds of 5-star reviews from repeat customers as well as local and international visitors.
Scenic City Properties makes sure guests experience the very best down-home Southern hospitality.
