The exhibition of the 30 finalists in our Dive into Waterford social media-based photography competition ended last week. The exhibition had some stunning images that really showcase Waterford's natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes. We would like to congratulate Amy Purdue on her winning photo.

JAPANESE MARTIAL ARTS EMBU EVENT at Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens Tramore

Join then for a captivating Demonstration of an all Japan Kendō Federation (Zen Nihon Kendō Renmei 全日本剣道連盟) Laido Kata, Jodo Kata and Uchida-ryū tanjōjutsu Demos, as you make your way around their eleven unique garden areas.

This demo promises of a cultural deep dive into Japan’s rich martial arts heritage. Don't miss this unique fusion of Irish-Japanese history in a one-of-a-kind venue celebrating Lafcadio Hearn, the Irish-Greek writer with deep connections to Japan.

Dearg Duth – Samhain Procession takes place in Waterford City on Friday, October 25th, 2024. Ireland’s oldest city, offers a host of Samhain attractions over the Bank Holiday Weekend. The programme launches on Friday evening, 25th, with Dearg Dúth, a stunning Samhain Procession by award winning spectacle specialists Spraoi, Waterford.

The procession’s cast of costumed performers departs Waterford’s Viking Triangle, adjacent to Ireland’s Wake Museum, before performing through the city’s medieval streets to a finale incorporating projection and aerial dance on the city’s ancient walls.
The production is currently being created in Spraoi Studios by a team led by Artistic Director Mike Leahy, with inputs from graphic artist and animation director Paul Bolger who has published several books and films inspired by Celtic mythology.
The Dearg Due, or Dearg Dur, literally translates as Red Thirst or Red Bloodsucker. Said to be a young woman that lived two millennia ago, the Dearg Due was once the daughter of a nobleman in Waterford. She was loved by all the villagers and commoners in the area. Kind, smart, and incredibly beautiful, the Dearg Dúth was famous across the country. What happened to her next, however, made her infamous.

Halloween Trail & Pumpkin Picking at Mount Congreve Gardens

🎃 Details: The ghastly ghouls have returned – and are taking over the gardens again this Halloween! Follow their Halloween trail to help find them. On arrival, each child will receive an activity sheet - from there, you can start your adventure! At the end, your child can collect their pumpkin. Don’t forget to dress up to help us scare the ghouls away!
