In the very heart of the Caribbean is a small island called Vieques.
Known as La Isla Nena, it is the little sister island of Puerto Rico, with one side facing the Atlantic Ocean and the other side facing the Caribbean Sea.
About twice the size of the island of Manhattan, but with two thirds of the island under the protection of the US Fish & Wildlife Organization, Vieques is currently the largest natural preserve in the Caribbean, and the home to one of the strongest bioluminescent bays in the world.
Nesting turtles, wild horses, and lazy iguanas, share the many incredible beaches with surprisingly few tourists.
If you want to explore an island off the beaten path, with stunning beaches, excellent food, and friendly locals, Vieques is the island for you.
