Next up was Alton Towers Scarefest, for their first weekend!
Daz Games is back with Panic! Reloaded -It’s a fun concept with the game-element, and I love the way the actors make good use of the lighting and audio effects. It was nice to see a show scene added at the start.
Compound is a fantastic new addition and for those who remember Sub-Species, it’s a nice call-back to that maze, in terms of both intensity and theming. The Phalanx themed maze includes multiple routes, impressive theming and you are split from your group at times. For us, it was the stand out attraction of the event.
The Attic and Skin Snatchers - whilst we still had fun, we feel they are past their best now and a refresh would be welcome, especially with the latter which has now been a part of the line-up for ten years!
Sadly ride availability at Alton Towers continues to be poor - the worst we’ve seen it, with very few rides available during the first few hours of the day and multiple breakdowns throughout the weekend. We were delighted to finally get back on Hex, but sadly it only lasted a day and a half before being closed again for repairs!
Park-wide entertainment has also seen cutbacks, with the Alton Ancestors first show now not starting until 12.45 and stage entertainment not starting until 1pm at weekends, missing an hour of the lunchtime audience. We really missed the Alton Ancestors morning show, which was always a staple upon entering the park on a Scarefest day and with many of the thrill coasters unavailable for the first few hours of the day, it would have made a big difference. Understand savings may need to be made, but why not shift the shows forward to still have the ancestors there from the start of the day? 🤔
Despite numerous breakdowns across the weekend, we were delighted to finally ride Nemesis reborn in the dark! The ride looks truly incredible at night with the additional lighting, waterfall, and mist effects - a world class experience once again!
