Exhale Doula Services My name is Steffi Gutierrez. I am a certified doula through Childbirth International and have attended over 60 births, globally. "She is not a friend.
(1)

I also have my Masters in Global Maternal Health and have worked throughout Africa. I would love to be your doula-here in NJ! She is not a healthcare provider. She is a mother figure of the most ancient kind. Her life experience empowers you. She is a reassuring presence who will always listen to you and support you in your chosen path. She will remind you of those choices, and the reason you made

them, when you doubt, are anxious, or afraid. She sees you; the real you. Her understanding of your journey supports your self-confidence. She eases pain with a touch, a word, a look… She is a doula."

“The experts in birth are mothers. During the first hours, days, weeks and even months following birth, mothers can’t take their eyes off of their babies.”

This article by midwife Sister MorningStar provides the reader with insight into newborns and their needs, paying close attention to their sense of sight and the newborn’s inclination to gaze at his mother.

Once you are postpartum, you will always be postpartum. The changes that your body experiences during pregnancy creates a new norm for your body after childbirth.

As a personal trainer certified in Prenatal & Postnatal Exercise, many women commonly assume that I only work with pregnant women and new moms. The reality is though, no matter how long it's been since you had a baby, postpartum exercise is relevant. It focuses on restructuring and strengthening your core. It incorporates cardio and strength training for your upper and lower body. Most importantly, it focuses on the whole picture, from hormones all the way to daily sleep.
If you are a mom, no matter what age your child is, and you are looking for an experienced trainer to help you reach your health goals, use the link to see if we'd be a good fit together. I have 5 spots for this coming month.

Fussy baby? Colicky baby? Witching hour? Have you tried the Magic Baby hold?
Also called the "colic hold" or "grandma hold," this has been a helpful calming technique for just about every well-fed but fussy baby we've met. You can hold them so that they face the floor or hug them against you so that they face out. You can add a bounce or sway too. While you won't be able to see your baby's face, you will be able to feel the tension in their body release. The best part is that a partner or support person can do this hold too while you take a break!
Remember though that nothing helps a baby who needs to nurse except more nursing.

Exhale Doula Services Philosophy:
I believe birth is a natural process in which we have the ability to work instinctively to do what our bodies have been designed to do. We believe our bodies know how to carry, labor, birth, and heal, and that every woman deserves the opportunity to do so if she desires.
This is your pregnancy, your birth, and your journey, and I am here to follow your wishes pertaining to your labor and delivery.
I believe that pregnancy, labor and birth is a Rite of Passage and should be treated with the utmost respect, regarding culture, religion and personal beliefs. I believe every woman and her family is unique, and my role as your doula is to learn about you and your family, support your values, desires, preferences, and needs so as to provide the individualized care you deserve.
I support your right to birth in whatever environment you wish and will be happy to assist you in the environment most comfortable to you, whether that be in the home, in a hospital, or in a birthing center.
Every woman and her family should be informed about her options and rights surrounding birth, and I will work to ensure you are as informed as possible. I will work diligently to answer all your concerns and will continue my own education to please every client.
I believe a doula has the responsibility to help women non-medically manage labor pain, and help her cope with the mental, emotional, and physical impacts of her labor and delivery.
All women, including survivors of trauma, have the power and permission to birth without fear and the right to have a powerful and therapeutic birthing experience.
I believe my role as a doula is to support relationships, and support a partner’s role in the labor and delivery process.
I practice from a social justice perspective and am honored to serve all types of families regardless of race, religion, class, marital status, s*xual orientation, or gender expression.

Many people ask me: “What is delayed cord clamping and what are the benefits?”

•Delayed cord clamping is a birth practice where the umbilical cord is not clamped or cut until after pulsations have ceased, or until after the placenta is delivered. The timing of clamping the umbilical cord, and practices have a sizeable impact on the outcomes or mother and baby. Research has shown that when we delay cord clamping the neonate will receive up to 30% more of the fetal-placental blood volume than it would have with immediate cord clamping. When your baby is born, the cord and placenta system will contain about one third of your baby’s blood, whilst the remaining two thirds is in the baby.
• Of course, this leads to benefits for the baby which include a normal, healthy blood volume for the transition to life outside the womb; and a full count of red blood cells, stem cells and immune cells.
• There are also benefits for the mother, delayed clamping keeps the mother-baby unit intact and can prevent complications with delivering the placenta.

Think about it • research it • advocate for it
