Sometimes we need a fresh start...in life and our money!
A dish towel moment....
How a dish towel reminded me of a life lesson.
For 25 years a dish towel has hung on our stove to the right of the sink (in 2 different homes).
But now, in this house, the stove is to the left and a good distance from the sink.
My natural inclination was to hang the dish towel on the stove as I'd done for so many years
Every time I'd be doing dishes, baking or cooking and get a phone call, I would walk to the dish towel, dripping all over the floor, dry my hands and return to whatever I was doing. I kept thinking there has to be a better way....for less mess.
I know many of you have towels under the sink or hanging on the door but my husband has reasons for not wanting those options. After 20 months in this home, I finally took notice that my dishwasher (to the right of the sink) also has a handle ....like the stove.
Ok, call me crazy, I knew it had a handle but it hadn't truly registered.
I guess all those years of no handle on the dishwasher was entrenched in my brain.
When it dawned on me a few days ago that I could actually have a dish towel close, mixed thoughts ran through my mind...
❇️ How dumb could you be?,
✴️ This is genius!
❇️ Why didn't I think of this sooner?!
As much as I hate to admit, I'd formed a habit and found myself still going the distance to dry my hands on the dish towel on the stove.
The question that keeps coming to my mind is; how often do we do things just because they've become habits?
Why do we make things hard when they could be so much easier?
It happens in our health, attitudes, mindsets relationships money and spiritual lives.
We forget or neglect to look at our options.
Often we're not seeing the possibilities.
Sometimes we can figure it out ourselves. In the case of a dish towel, it took 20 months to realize I had a better option. We can pray and ask God to show us things that could be better options or shortcuts. Sometimes we need omeone to come alongside us and give fresh eyes and a new perspective. As a legacy & financial coach, this is what I do with my clients.
Maybe you're at a point you can't see any other possibilities but need to make some changes.
