Busy night at the anchorage, lots and lots of wind shifts. The distance Freya covered during the night at anchor was 3nm (average speed was 0.2knots). 😂

Celebrity visit at the anchorage today by the Maltese Falcon a $150M 88m sailing yacht that nowadays can be chartered if you can afford a whopping $550000/week. A bargain compared to SY Freya if you ask me… 🤣⛵️

Poros is pretty nice after all. First time we visited we only stayed for a few days and wasn’t that impressed but this time it took 3 weeks to head out again. :)

We got a Volvo Penta D2-75 that is spraying oil in the engine room due to a design flaw by Volvo.

I very much appreciate the expert work done by the professionals at Artemis Leros Boatyard in Greece when the installed the engine in our boat a few a few hours before we bought her. This is a perfect display of craftsmanship, top of the line expertise and professional pride in what they are doing…

NOOOOOT!!!

No lockwashers or lock oil on any of the bolts that keep the engine in place. During our “clean the engine”-session we found one of the bolts under the engine and at the same noticed that the other bolts could be removed by hand without any tools…

A job “well done” by the wrench monkeys who installed the engine!!

This is a perfect example why I never let any professionals do any work on our boat.

Remember everyone, trust is good but control is better and assumption is the mother of all f**kups…

Now there are both lock oil and lockwashers on each bolt…

Our new anchor finally arrived. Now we just have to figure out how to bring it onboard. 🙈

We nice walk in Valletta with quite a few things to look at and a lot of nice food. :)

When you live on a boat the dinghy is the closest thing to a car you got.

We use ours to take us ashore when we anchor and explore areas that are to shallow to enter with the big boat.

We recently upgraded our old dinghy to a slightly bigger 290 Ultralight 3D that allows us to not only bring more friends along but and also use it in heavier sea without soaking us.

Now we just have to make some chaps to the fella to protect him from the sun.

Today we visited the old parts of Valletta, it was a great idea till we realised that it’s built on a really steep hill and no matter where you go it’s uphill and a lot of it.

Joke aside, a lot of old buildings and history to be found between all the tourists and Maltese people enjoying the sunny weather.

Also, I wonder if “The fortress builders” company got a future or if their business died a few hundred years ago?

At last our winter season is over and we are on our way again. Today the course was set on Malta about 55nm south of Marina di Ragusa.

We had a lovely sail the entire day beside the small detail that our autopilot became some sort of diva and decided to do everything else beside going straight. Will have a serious chat with the little bu**er tomorrow and set him straight. 🔨🔨🔨🤕

New version of tiramisu, Sicilian pistachiomisu served in a moka coffee maker. Surprisingly good, almost as good as the chocolate pancakes. 🤩

Guess it was just a matter of time. Meet Moon our newest crew member. He’s a 5 month old Sicilian guy who’s really into food.

We got him from one of our neighbours here in the marina since their older cat didn’t enjoy Moons company at all.

Today we build stuff on Freya, a new more fancy barometer with pressure drop alerts (comes in handy to detect approaching fronts) and a lot of other fun stuff is on the menu. Connecting it to my SignalK server is of course one of the things that have to be implemented. 🤓

About bloody time to start sorting out the belly of the beast. This is one of the top 5 things that I dislike the most with boats that had multiple “I have no clue”-owners that just do quick and dirty.

🤦‍♂️The feeling when you realise that the “professionals” who removed the teak from the deck was a bunch of incompetent bastards who “forgot” to do the job properly. Guessing that there are about 2000 holes that lack epoxy or fibreglass hiding under the 2mm layer of paint.

At least I’m happy that the paint has hold on as long as it has

Last sunset in “freedom” this year, tomorrow we head to Marina do Ragusa and Freya’s winter berth.

Hello Italy!! 🇮🇹
After about 60 hours and 280 nm Sicily begin to show its coastline. The final 50 miles went waaay faster with speeds up to 9.5 knots (on a surf but still cool with our boat) than the previous night when we averaged almost 2 knots Amazing what 30 knots of extra wind can do. 😂

Thor wasn't happy on our crossing to Italy.

The first night of our crossing to Italy was quite eventful. According to the weather forecast we should expect 10-14 knots of wind and calm sea. Mildly put, they were wrong…. 🤦‍♂️

Do you remember when back in the days when people told you that you shouldn't be outside on a field or under a tree when there's lightning and thunder? Now imagine being offshore 100 miles from land with a 15m metal stick pointing right up against the dark clouds. Doesn't that sound like the brightest idea ever?
