Unfortunately every year the whole east side of North America gets very wet and rainy just when all our precious figs begin to ripen. Somehow this contributes to less flavorful, more watery tasting figs. I actually bring some of my trees in the garage (Pain in the butt) when a big storm is coming. W...

I love this fig. I just ate 4 Breba this week and they are fantastic. Medium large about 60-90g. They are very different than main. The breba are syrupy sweet with a apricot/peach fruitiness. The main are different in several ways- smaller about 40g for me and while still reasonable in size I say ar...
https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/1044786-i-purchased-some-cuttings-semi-hardwood-cuttings-ok
Hello All, I decided to purchase some cuttings. I know it’s a bit off-season, but I wanted to get my feet wet with learning to root before fully diving in when season is on. As this was my 1st cuttings purchase, I wanted to check if it was common practice for sellers to send semi-hardwood cuttings...
Great post on Madeira Island Black vs Figo Preto vs Black Madeira.
https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/1036494-madeira-island-black-vs-figo-preto-and-black-madeira
I am in the camp of those that believe that MIB is different. Mine grows more aggressively and the figs are significantly larger, for the most part, and they have a different texture that is lighter and far more syrupy. The larger figs are MIB and the smaller ones are one of the other BM types. One....
Great bark grafting tutorial from an ourfigs member.
https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/755512-bark-graft-tutorial
I was just asked about how I do these grafts so I went out and documented one quickly so I could post a quick tutorial. This is not comprehensive but it works very well and is very forgiving. My success rate is VERY high with these. Why bark graft? Often, you will have scion that is smaller than the...

I’m so excited!! Things are starting to wake up and I can hardly wait for summer. This is going to be an epic year for me and figs. I have lots of new varieties and I have been grafting them to some really nice and well established trees so I’ll likely get to try many of these this year. Graftin...
Good morning everyone! With Wills' permission and great pride I would like to announce the grand opening of the world's first and only internet marketplace dedicated to everything green, www.BidNGrow.com. BidNGrow is the idea of Danny Gentile, fig-lover and owner of figBid.com. Taking on the expertise of a few awesome gardening friends with a knack for business, BidNGrow was assembled from the ground up with horticulturists in mind. Just like its sister-site, BidNGrow will be an auction-based, category specific website joining exceptional sellers with growers of all types of vegetables and fruit, except figs. Figbidders will continue to be served and afforded a special touch by Danny at figBid.com. But the lessons learned from figBid will carry over to BidNGrow.com and customer service for buyers and sellers will always remain paramount. That means a real person understanding specific needs of the horticultural seller and individual concerns of the backyard grower will be there for you. It's a level of support no other site can provide. BidNGrow also promotes safety and integrity. Safety and integrity are BidNGrow's core values and we promise BidNGrow.com will be carefully monitored and policed at all times. Fraud at any degree will never be tolerated. BidNGrow will strive for 100% fairness and transparency and nothing less. Please give us a visit and take a look around; then register and dive right in. The site is easy to use and hassle-free for buyers and sellers. During the entire month of February, BidNGrow.com will be conducting a raffle for a 100% custom grafting knife valued at $350. This is a one-of-a-kind perfectly balanced piece created using the finest materials. Can't wait to see everyone there.
There is a recent thread on the forum having to do with fig 'typing'. Is it necessary to group figs by types? For some 'typing' is the way to go. Others scoff. Have a read; It's an interesting topic.
https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/683000-mt-etna-category-demised-or-exalted
Awhile back in a thread concerning databases there was a decision to eliminate the Mt Etna category and merge most of it into "Hardy Chicago". What is the consensus from folks who are familiar with these traits?

With the upcoming fall and winter months it's a good idea to start monitoring temps inside fig enclosures if you have any.
https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/633295-anyone-know-of-a-good-product-or-way-to-monitor-temperatures-inside-fig-enclosure
I plan on building a few different fig enclosures this winter without trees in them and monitoring and recording the temperature inside versus outside to see which style works best. Does anyone know of a good thermometer that may work for what I need?

Which cutting or cuttings have been stubborn or most difficult for you to root? I ask because out of all the cuttings I've attempted to root, the only one I've tried 3 batches of and have failed on is Kadota. As soon as they start pushing green, which is fast, they wilt and die. That's 3 different a...

Very nice Fig, fast growing and productive.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Not sure why this one doesn't get talked about more on any site. Perhaps a lack of french/italian name or insane price
