Captain Corey Muzzey had the wonderful opportunity to facilitate a vow renewal on the American Empress. Guests Lola Bessey and Rufus Yent brought along a copy of their vows for an extra special vow renewal on the Columbia & Snake rivers. Since 2005, the lovely couple had periodically renewed vows while cruising the seven seas, but this time was extra special.

Here's what they had to say, "This time, the vows seemed particularly meaningful since Rufus and I are both "in the twilight of our youth," as he likes to say, and we are on the Columbia that flows to the "end," of the great Pacific Ocean. And this year, Rufus will turn 90 on August 8, so it was especially meaningful."

Phil Westbrook engaged our guests with a music performance and skit in the Captain's Bar. He sang "Puttin on the Ritz" and played piano while SSOA member Bill Taylor played the monster from "Young Frankenstein."

Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau was joined by ATK's Bridget Lancaster and Dickie Brennan, Chef-Owner of Bourbon House. They chatted with festivalgoers and served up a delicious beef burgundy pot pie with bacon-thyme biscuit crust.

The Ocean Navigator Crew had a special guest onboard last week. Thunder Bay Mayor Ken Boshcoff joined us for a tour of the ship, including the bridge. The Mayor and his group even got the blow the ships horn a couple of times.

Summer is officially here! Earlier this week, our shoreside team celebrated the summer solstice with a delicious potluck and vibrant summer attire. After the festivities, we held a vote to determine the winners for Best Dressed and Best Side Dish. Congratulations to Claudette Grant for winning Best Dressed and Nancy Shapiro for winning Best Side Dish.

The fun didn't stop there! Our American Empress Crew joined in on the celebration by capturing a photo in The Dalles with their flower crowns.

The American Countess Crew and the Ohio Valley Coast Guard sector joined forces for their Annual Security Exercise. The action-packed event featured tabletop discussions about hostile boarding, active shooters, and even mass water rescues.

Representatives from state, federal, and medical response agencies brought their A-game, aiming for a coordinated and expedient response to protect lives. The Ohio Valley Coast Guard sector will whip up an after-action report, incorporating inputs from all participants, to help us develop top-notch contingency plans for our fleet. Great work, Crew!

Our American Countess Crew decided to commemorate Juneteenth yesterday with a reflection board. Hotel Director Cynthia Goldstein put the board together to educate, motivate, and celebrate. Not only did many Crew take the time to read the board, but many also had a conversation about it. Great work, Cynthia!

To roll out this project, we did Q&A sessions, technology training for recipes, and hosted daily meetings with Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau.
