Italy: A Feast for Body and Soul What do you imagine when you dream of Italy? Join me on a journey through my favorite place. We'll eat, pray, and eat some more.

Get ready for a pilgrimage like no other, one that blends the very best of everything Italy has to offer, from its famous duomos and frescoes to its equally famous foods and wines. A pilgrimage led by Mary DeTurris Poust provides just the right balance of excitement and relaxation, tourist "must-sees" and "dolce far niente" — the sweetness of doing nothing at all — except maybe sitting in a piazza eating gelato.

Happy Epiphany! Will La Befana visit your house tonight?

According to Italian traditions, Befana is an old woman who gives presents throughout the country on the night of January 5, also known as the Epiphany Eve. By giving out gifts, the lady is often compared to Santa Claus. Many people believe that the name Befana originates from the Feast of Epiphany. Others have the belief that Befana is a descendant of Strenia, a goddess of the Romans.

Whatever it may be, we take a look at the Befana's legend and how this symbolic witch is celebrated on the 6th at the link here: https://bit.ly/3Pi4ZLs

Already planning for my next trip to Florence. I was so disappointed I did not have time to get to the first spot on this list, which was across the street from our hotel.

Visit an unusual Florence, following the tradition of the ancient perfumers. An art that comes from the Renaissance and lives on today in places full of charm. | Visit Tuscany

A taste of Siena closer to home… (If home is NY.)

The Met’s new exhibition on Siena—the first of its kind in America—makes clear how astonishing it is that paint, of all things, became the center of Western art. “There may never be another big American exhibition about this freakish little era, when artists figured out how to make colorful ooze do their bidding,” Jackson Arn writes. “My advice, besides ‘Go,’ is ‘Take nothing for granted.’ ” Read his full review: https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/Bqkq5T

Our Story

This page grew out of a pilgrimage and evolved into a passion. Italy — Rome, in particular — captured my heart. Although I’m no longer leading pilgrimages, I am still traveling and sharing favorite spots, helpful tips, and the beauty of “la dolce far niente" -- the sweetness of doing nothing, which is an Italian specialty. Sometimes, when we’re really lucky, we’ll head to other new locations. We promise to take you along for the ride, whether it’s Paris, Ireland, or maybe a U.S. location you don’t expect. Ciao!
