🇬🇷 Corinth and Nafplio, Greece= MY FAVORITE!!! As we left Athens, we crossed the narrow Corinth Canal. Built around 1890, the canal created new sea routes between the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth. After the Canal, we visited Ancient Corinth. Saint Paul stayed in Corinth for two years and we walked along the SAME street that Paul did too! We got to see the Temple of Apollo as well. No time for resting! Next, we were off to Nafplio where we hiked 999 steps to the Palamidi Fortress. Our hotel, Castellano Suites was so stunning and our room was amazing! Reminded me of a Disney movie!
*Honest review of Nafplio: WONDERFUL! It felt like I was on a movie set and we could have stayed here longer. Great hidden gem and would love to return!
🇬🇷 The next day, we visited the Mycenae site, a massive monument built before 1100 BCE The name is from Homer’s “The Iliad.” (Mycenae’s King Agamemnon led the Greek armies to the War of Troy on behalf of his brother Menelaus to bring back his beautiful wife, Helen). Then we went to the Treasury of Atreus, where we saw the Tholos Tomb assumed to belong to King Agamemnon. Afterwards, we stepped through the Lion Gate (first coat of arms) and visited the ruins of the palace and the castle. At the end of the day, we toured an organic farm and wine tasting with a great storytelling guide! The boys loved racing on an ancient Olympic track too- especially Todd who tried to out run our boys.
This stop was the highlight of our vacation! I love my job!
