Happy National Tourism Day! 🌍✈️
What's your favorite vacation spot? Is it the stunning landscapes, amazing food, or the warm locals that keep you coming back? Let's think about responsible travel to preserve these experiences. Ever been to Florence and seen more Americans than Italians? It's a sign we need to change how we explore.
Consider traveling during off-peak times or visiting less-touristed places like the mountain villages of the Dolomites after Venice, or taking a leisurely drive through the Scottish countryside, ending briefly in Edinburgh. This way, we can help distribute tourism more evenly and enjoy more authentic experiences.
Join us in planning travel that's good for us and the places we visit. Ready to rethink your journey? 🌟🧳

Today we landed in Rudesheim, Germany after passing through the Rhine Gorge full of castles.
Rudesheim is a wine village producing incredible Riesling wines. Not all Reisling is sweet.
They are also known for their Rudesheim coffe that they top with their locally produced Asbach brandy that has been lit on fire. Then topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. You drink the hot coffee through the cool whipped cream and it is delish!
Traditional German Gluhwein - Feuerzangenbowle
A special kind of gluhwein - 🔥!
Nothing quite says “happy holidays” like mulled wine and a flaming, rum soaked sugar loaf.
Feuerzangenbowle is a traditional German alcoholic drink in which a rum soaked sugar cone is set on fire and drips into mulled wine. It is often part of a Christmas or New Year’s Eve celebrations. Literally translated - “fire tongs punch”!

Happy National Alaska Day!
Chasing Auroras in Fairbanks, AK
My main drive in getting to Alaska in March is that time and time again I heard that it was Alaskan’s favorite month. It’s not as cold (it’s all relative, right?), there’s plenty of daylight to do outdoor activities such as snowshoeing, skiing and snowmachining (snowmobiling for us), and you can still see the auroras.
Well they had me sold on auroras!! I’ve always wanted to see them and for some reason I thought I would have to go to some far northern country to see them. In fact, you can see them best in Fairbanks, AK due to the fact that since they are in the interior you have far less cloud cover from the marine layer that you get in other parts of the world.
And WOW did we ever see them! When we arrived into Fairbanks around 10pm we immediately suited up with more layers and headed out away from the artificial lights and we got our first show. In fact, we had amazing auroras for all 3 nights that we were in Fairbanks. It helps that there is little wind in Fairbanks to compensate for the frigid temperatures, but it’s all about having the right clothing and shoes!
Did you know that the auroras dance? And that it’s rare to see the pinks and purples? These auroras were so strong that we were able to capture on my iphone. If you want to learn why auroras happen, reach out to me and I’ll send a link to a short video explanation.
