Pauline was out Nordic walking at Cammo Estate and was so impressed by Friends of Cammo rewilding efforts she has decided to join them!
They have culverted water from an original garden water feature to assist a boggy field to proper wetland.
Lots of native woodland planted and being cared for.
Great work within the city of Edinburgh 👏

A sunny if blustery day The Japanese Garden at Cowden Cherry blossom, azaleas and rhododendron in bud and acers awakening from winter. A super spot for a slow visit and some tree bathing!

Kirsty spent some time in the west last week, including around the old McAlister stomping grounds of Kintyre. Typically we only pass through en route to Islay or Jura, but it’s definitely worth lingering for longer if you can.

Rosslyn Chapel a Scottish marvel for more than 500 years gained global attention with the publication of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code 21 years ago this year. Look out for special events to mark the book's birthday or perhaps consider your own event - such a special place!

Revisited the UK’s first Community Woodland Wooplaw Community Woodlands who are still clearing up after storm Arwen damage - and the named storms since.
It is very sad to lose so many mature trees. However, the site is being sorted and nature goes in cycles. There is an opportunity to diversify Wooplaw and make it even more valuable for wildlife. Replanting of some 900 trees this month will be start of the new cycle for Wooplaw.
One of the woodland’s founders Tim Stead - the Magician in Wood - is buried at Wooplaw. As an artist sculpting in wood he wished to plant more than he used. His home has been saved for the nation by Tim Stead Trust

Great visit to The Port of Leith Distillery, the world's first vertical distillery. They have partnered with Crisp Malt and Upper Bolton Farm to ensure their treasured barley travels just 90 miles from field to still.
What a location! This unique new distillery overlooks the historic port of Leith, with outstanding views of the Firth of Forth, and sits just around the corner from The Royal Yacht BRITANNIA fellow holders of Green Tourism Gold.🏅

Pauline had a great visit to the Blackhouse at Arnol on the Isle of Lewis. It was once the home of a Hebridean family who lived with their animals under the same roof. The peat fire in the middle of the house was continuously lit. This blackhouse was inhabited until 1965 and has been preserved as a wonderful time capsule of Hebridean life in times gone by.

It’s World Whsky Day! 🥃 Views vary on how much a cask influences the flavour of the whisky. What is agreed, is that it’s a lot! The Speyside Cooperage is the best place to see skilled craftsmen and coopers at work, hand building, refurbishing and charring casks to individual distilleries’ specifications. This shop-floor tour was pre-Covid. Looking forward to taking more guests when the Cooperage reopens in a few weeks.

What we’ve ALL been dreaming of during lockdown... Oban, islands, boats and magical sunsets. ⛴ 🌅 As we entered Phase 3 of COVID-19 recovery this week, paving the way for the ‘reopening of tourism’, now seems as good a time as any to share this:
Fraser’s favourite: Wester Ross
Fraser Parkinson’s favourite place is around Gairloch in Wester Ross. Here’s why: There are so many magical places in Scotland but for me Gairloch and its surrounding area tops the bill. It's rugged, wild and remote but within the small coastal community there are a number of places to go for a pint and amazing seafood after working up an appetite on some of the walks and trails in the broader area. Within a short striking distance are some of the most spectacular seascapes and mountain ranges Scotland has to offer. Views to the distant islands of Skye, Lewis and Harris bring alive the myths and legends of Scotland. A walk to the Rua Reidh lighthouse is rewarded with stunning cliffs and stacks and leaves you amazed at how the engineers managed to build it in such a remote spot.
