Adventure and Wildlife Hosted by the Shark Brothers To View: http://www.pureflorida.com/adventure-series "We knew we had our hands full from the start because there is just so much to share here in our backyard.

A television and internet series that shares the natural beauty, people and quality of life found in and around Punta Gorda / Englewood Beach and the Charlotte Harbor Gulf Island Coast in Florida. Adventure and Wildlife creators, producers and hosts, the Shark Brothers (Sean & Brooks Paxton) describe the series this way. With that in mind, we designed each episode to include two eco-based adventur

e activities and a Conservation Spotlight Segment. Our goal is to not only showcase the uniquely expansive natural environments and all the adventure and wildlife we’re fortunate to be surrounded with in and around Punta Gorda / Englewood and the Charlotte Harbor Gulf Island Coast, but to also introduce some of the people who know it best. These special guest experts and the companies and organizations they represent also serve in the important role as ambassadors for our area."

What does southwest Florida have in common with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, diamond mines in South Africa, solar power and the agriculture and tourism industries? In this episode, the Shark Brothers explore that question and discover the answers in a story spanning more than a century on the Babcock Ranch Preserve in Punta Gorda, Florida.

A unique adventure experience offered by Babcock Ranch Eco-Tours takes visitors on a journey through this fascinating history and surrounding ecosystems. As part of the largest land conservation purchase in Florida's history, the Preserve is also the largest state-owned working cattle ranch where modern-day cowboys carry on with the kind of work that's been done for hundreds of years. This rich history of natural and cultural legacies, passed on through generations, is carried forward in America's first solar-powered town where development is balanced with the local environment here on the Charlotte Harbor Gulf Island Coast.

It's time to get wild with the latest episode of Adventure and Wildlife - Hosted by the Shark Brothers!

Commercial crabbing is a family tradition for the Santini Family. Five generations have pulled crab pots from Florida’s waters to make a living. In this episode, The Shark Brothers join father and son team, Gene and Nick Santini of Punta Gorda, Florida, as they continue the family’s commercial fishing legacy by harvesting blue crabs and other edible species from the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor.

After the catch, the crab's journey is followed to Peace River Seafood, a local restaurant and fish market. Here, they are either steamed for 13 minutes and served to the restaurant's diners, sold in the onsite seafood market, distributed to other local restaurants and markets or shipped out of state to places like Maryland or California.

The episode's Conservation Spotlight Segment features a visit to the Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gorda. This non-profit facility is dedicated to the rescue, care, protection and preservation of the area's injured or orphaned native wildlife and public education.

Shelter-in-Place Recommended for All
Special Needs Registration at Full Capacity

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 7, 2017) – With the current forecast of minimal storm surge, residents are encouraged to shelter-in-place.

Charlotte County special needs shelter registration has reached full capacity. Those who are oxygen dependent should have a 36-hour supply of oxygen on hand. People who are electric-dependent need to prepare to shelter-in-place with an electrical backup.

For sheltering in place, including residents with special needs, you should be prepared to do the following:
•Select a small, interior room, with no or few windows. Remember mobile homes are not built to withstand the high winds associated with tropical storms and hurricanes.
•Close and lock all windows and exterior doors. Windows should be reinforced with hurricane shutters or at least 5/8” plywood.
•Turn off all fans, heating and air conditioning systems. Close the fireplace damper.
•Get your family disaster supplies kit including a first aid kit.
•Bring your pets inside, and be sure to bring additional food and water supplies for them. Do not allow pets to go outside until the danger has passed.
•Fill your bathtub with water to clean and flush toilets.
•It is ideal to have a hard-wired telephone in the room you select. Call your emergency contact and have the phone available if you need to report a life-threatening condition. Cellular telephone equipment may be overwhelmed or damaged during an emergency.
•Keep listening to your radio or television until you are told all is safe or you are told to evacuate.

Make sure you have the following items:

At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food, including any special dietary needs and a manual can opener.
•One gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation.
•Special items needed for infants or elderly family members.
•Battery operated or hand crank radio and flashlight with extra batteries.
•Any medications that you take and glasses.

You must take responsibility for yourself and your family in an emergency. Part of any plan is to identify and use all available resources. Plan ahead with friends and family members where possible who lives outside of the evacuation area or flood zones, in a well-constructed home.

Media and public can follow Charlotte County Emergency Management important emergency information at www.charlottecountyfl.gov, www.facebook.com/oemcharlottecounty, and www.twitter.com/ccoem.
