It is time to get back to planning and sharing the European cycle adventures. I thought we would start with one of the reasons we. Is it, and that is the cathedrals.
When we visited San Gimignano, the cathedral had an interesting entrance. As you entered, on the left was a fresco of Heaven. On the left, Hell. This was the beginning of the symbolism of right is good, left is evil, which is a common theme in many cultures. Obviously two very different and stark contrasts in the afterlife. Remember that when the cathedral was built, most of the populous could not read, so frescos, carvings, stained glass, all common items found in a cathedral were used to teach and to remind.
This was not the only time we saw this contrast with Heaven and Hell.
