Well the December comp and xmas party is done and dusted and as such the VBTFFC no longer exists. A huge thanks to our loyal supporters over the last 7 years. I would like to name you all but I might miss one or two so to be safe thank you all. There was some good fish weighed today being Flathead, Whiting, bream and Trevally. No one ventured outside so no Snapper weighed in. 2019 Champions in mens Mark Streven women Meagan Early and bass Luke Clowe well done worthy winners. Well this is my last post so a huge thank you Dan and the committee for a job well done for 6 years but unfortunately things change for ever what reason and VBTFFC is no more. See you on the water Frog

Well the August comp was a quiet affair with only 5 members weighing in fish. The target species were Venus Tusk Fish and Luderick but unfortunately none of these were weighed in with Flathead and Bream being popular choices. Strev finished on top for the day with 3 species followed by Dan and Frog with 2 species. Luke was the only member to weigh in a Bass and a good fish it was at 44cm. Mystery fish was Flathead won by Dave and the members draw was Luke so $40 each into their pockets. With the warmer weather approaching there has been a few reports of large female Flathead in the estuaries, 90cm plus. There is currently no size restrictions regarding maximum size of Flathead only the minimum. While there is no law saying you can't keep these big girls for the table, they are the future for maintaining a healthy population of Flathead. Maybe fisheries should consider a maximum length for Flathead as the law states you can have one over 70cm, maybe none over 70cm might be better but this is my view and not that of VBTFFC. On a sadder note the committee have decided that due to falling numbers of members compared to previous years the future of the club is looking bleak and while the club is in a healthy position the reality is the club will be wound up at the Christmas function on December 15th. Calls to members to become more active in the club has been unproductive with a dedicated small group helping when they can keeping the club going. If anyone is interested in forming a new committee to keep the club going then please see Dan. Until next time cheers to all Frog

Our next comp is next weekend from Friday 30th thru to Sunday 1st. Just to clarify the fishing times you can start fishing from midnight Thursday 29th till 12pm Sunday the 1st. Target spieces are Venus Tusk Fish and Blackfish. Weigh in from 12pm to 1pm on Sunday at Valla Beach Tavern with a BBQ to follow after presentations. Membership fees for 2019/20 are now due and you must be financial to weigh any fish in on Sunday. Costs are $30 single or $60 for a family of 4. You can pay fees at anytime to a committee member or leave at Tavern with your details. For the keen Bass fishers closed season finishes on the 1st September so its game on. The rules for the bass have changed a little so catch up with Dan for details or better still come to our next meeting. We are always needing more members to come on board to help out with functions and raffles especially our Friday night raffle at the Tavern. This is once every 3 weeks and only takes up 2hrs of your time. Until next time cheers to all Frog

Last comp for the 2018/19 year this weekend 28th - 30th. Target spieces Tailor and Flathead. Weigh in at Tavern from 12pm to 1pm on the Sunday with BBQ and a couple of drinks to follow after all presentations. The annual general meeting will also be had on the day and we would like as many members as possible to attend as we have a bit to discuss for the next 12 months. See you Sunday until then cheers to all Frog

The April comp was on the weekend of the 26th with a good turn out of members for the weigh in on Sunday at the Tavern. Target spieces were Tailor and Bream and with the support from Hicks Smash Repairs, prizes were awarded to all divisions within the club. Noah weighed in a Mullet for the minnows, Jack a Flathead for the juniors, Elaine a Bream for the ladies, Strev a Bream and Luke a Tailor for the mens. Mick weighed in 5 spieces with Strev next best with 3 spieces. Luke came out on top in the Bass section and with this being the last fish before the closed season a winner has been decided and will be announced on the presentation day in June. The mystery fish was Flathead meaning Jack had a good weekend with $20 in the pocket plus the juniors prize. Members draw was Mick S who decided to to stay home and watch his beloved Raiders so it jackpots to $80 next comp. May comp is the weekend of the 24th with targets being Snapper and Bream with the weigh in at Tavern from 12pm to 1pm and a BBQ to follow. Until next time to cheers to all Frog

Comp this weekend with targets being Taylor and Bream. Weigh in at Valla Beach Tavern 12pm to 1pm on Sunday with BBQ to follow. If you cant make the weigh in just take a photo of your fish on a brag mat and send the photo to Dan, Buck or me before 1pm cheers Frog

March comp was held on the weekend of the 29th with targets being Spotted and Spanish mackerel, Dart and Flathead. The seas weren't real flash so no one ventured outside to chase a mackerel. Dan weighed in the biggest Dart and Strev the biggest Flathead by the smallest of margins and Jack Burly had a top Whiting for the weigh master. As I mentioned last month the bass section is heating up and the extra point for the biggest bass could be all the difference and as I predicted Dean spoilt the party for Luke but Dave is one happy man. Strev picked up the mystery fish with a bream so $40 in the wallet thank you very much. Hard luck story goes to Dave S who brought young Jack down to weigh his whiting in then had to go so he was not present for the members draw so it jackpots to $60 next month. April comp will be held on the weekend of the 26th with target spieces to be decided. Until next time cheers to all Frog

February comp held over the weekend 22/24 with the target being Flathead. Conditions weren't idea and this turned most members off. There was still some good fish weighed in with Mick Ellem with 4 spieces but no Flathead. Mick did have a superb Urunga bream of 1.4kg @ 47cm Kae Gregg had bream to be the top ladie. With the bass Luke came out on top with a 47cm fish and is now only 2 points behind Dave with 3 comps to go. My prediction is the winner will come out on top by 1 point between these two. If and I mean if Dean doesnt spoil the party by weighing in the biggest bass in the next comps thus taking the extra point. Mystery fish was whiting jackpot to $40 members draw Rosie Obrien jackpot $40. Next comp 29 /31 March being Spotted or Spanish Mackerel, Flathead and Dart. Cheers to all Frog

The Jack Whisperer and Strev went jack fishing at the not so secret spot anymore and had a fantastic session. When fishing tidal waterways the tide is every thing. It doesnt matter if you are fishing at the mouth or 6kms upstream you have to fish the changes If you leave the lures at home for a bit of bait fishing the golden rule is Fresh is best live is better. As you can see with the photo of Strev with 2 of the 4 jacks they got the sun is still up.
