THINGS TO DO ON A RAINY DAY IN SPLIT ☔️… Don’t let some bad weather ruin your fun!!! HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS;

🍽️ FOOD TOUR: At least 1/2 of www.splitfoodtour.com takes place indoors, across several different restaurant venues with sightseeing along the way, plus umbrellas are provided for guests.

🍷 WINE TASTING: Zinfandel Food & Wine Bar offer a tasty and informative experience, daily between 12pm-5pm - www.zinfandelfoodandwinebar.com (reservations recommended).

👓 VR EXPERIENCE: See what Diocletian's Palace used to look like when it was built in 305AD with www.diocletiansdream.com

🐸 FROGGY LAND: A unique collection of (taxidermy) frogs doing people things!

🧖‍♂️ PAMPER YOURSELF: Treat yourself to a spa day, I like the Spalato Spa at the at the Radisson Blu Hotel but there are many more to choose from.

🛍️ SHOPPING: There is a free shuttle bus from (and back to) the old town to The Mall of Split. The unmissable bright pink bus is located behind the ‘Split Sign’. You can check the website www.mallofsplit.hr for their schedule.

🎥 WATCH A MOVIE: All movies are in their original languages here in Croatia (with Croatian sub-titles) although for kids movies, they are usually dubbed into Croatian. The Mall of Split has a state of the art theatre including 3D & 4DX options.

🚗 GO-KARTING: At The City Centre One Mall, you can put your driving skills to the test. Their course is undercover in their parking garage.

🏰 DIOCLETIAN’S BASEMENTS: A well known filming location for GOT (where the dragons were kept), plus full of ‘real life’ fascinating history. You can either visit on your own or take a guided tour.

🏛️ MUSEUM HOPPING: There are many in Split such as the Archaeological, Ethnographic, Split City, Maritime, Fine Art, Game of Thrones, Illusions and the Mestrovic Gallery.

💦 RIVER RAFTING: Because hey, let’s face it you’ll be getting wet anyways! I recommend Split Adventure - www.splitadventure.com

EXPLORE SUPETAR: A great day trip from Split ⛴️…

If you're in Split and looking for a budget-friendly day trip, you have to check out Supetar on Brač Island.

It's super easy to get there – just catch the Jadrolinija ferry. Tickets are only €6.50 for adults, €3.20 for kids aged 3-12, and free for the little ones under 3. The ferry ride takes about 1hr and there are many trips back and forth throughout the day.

When you arrive in Supetar, you'll love the small quaint old town. You can start by visiting the church and for just €2, you can also climb the bell tower for stunning views. Then you can wander around the narrow streets where you'll find local konobas (restaurants), bakeries (where we grabbed delicious bureks for breakfast for Є3) and small grocery shops where you can pick up supplies.

The seafront promenade stretches several kilometers and is perfect for a leisurely walk. There are cheap sunbeds to rent, plenty of cafe bars and restaurants (some even have kiddie pools so everyone can have fun). You can also enjoy a relaxing beach massage or try out the MANY water sports available. We stopped at a cafe bar about half way for a well deserved cold large beer (which cost Є3.50).

As we explored further (we walked all the way to the end), we found the perfect spot for us – some rocks in a cove under the shade of pine trees. It was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful, literally a little slice of paradise!

To wrap up our day, we had an amazing dinner near the port at Hotel Osam 'Restaurant Otok' Their terrace dining is Michelin star-rated (I had a delicious burger for Є16.50 and my husband had a seafood risotto for Є19.50, which he really enjoyed). We then finished off with a sunset drink on their lovely rooftop terrace, which is open to everyone, before catching our ferry back.

SUMMARY: Supetar is an affordable, enjoyable and perfect DIY day trip from Split. It’s great for everyone, and I would say especially so if you have children.

THE VRANJAČA CAVE IS COOL - Literally, it's only 15°C! 🥶🌡️...

Looking for a way to beat the heat in Split? Just a 35 minute drive away lies the hidden gem of Vranjača Cave in Kotlenice.

This spectacular karst cave maintains a constant temperature of around 15°C, making it a perfect natural air conditioner!

Discovered in 1903 and open to the public since 1929, Vranjača Cave boasts stunning stalactites and stalagmites spread across two main chambers.

The well-lit and accessible paths ensure a safe and fascinating visit. The cave is a protected geomorphological natural monument and one of Dalmatia's most beautiful attractions (just be sure to wear non-slip shoes).

HOURS: 9am-7pm

COST: Є8 adult, Є6 student, Є4 children (payment in cash)

LENGTH OF TIME: The talk in the beginning and the looped path inside the cave can take anywhere between 30 mins - as long as you like 😉

OTHER ACTIVITIES NEARBY:

🌳 Interpretive Center: Learn more about the natural and cultural heritage of the area. To find it in google maps, it’s called ‘Centar za posjetitelje Skrivena Dalmacija’.

🤖 Lesnina ###L Split Furniture Store: Enjoy a unique dining experience at their restaurant where robots serve your meal – a fun treat for both kids and adults alike!

TRAVEL TIPS:

🚗 Best by Car: Having a vehicle is highly recommended.

🚌 Public Transport Alternative: You could also take an uber/bolt to the cave and return by bus (as I am not sure that an uber or a bolt can be ordered from this location). Check the #67 bus schedule using the 'Promet Split' app, as buses run only 2-3 times per day. The bus nearest stop is about a 5-7 minute walk from the cave.

🚌🚍 PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN SPLIT 🚍🚌...

Split is a compact city and easily walkable. While we don’t have trams or an underground system, we do have a reliable bus service to get you wherever you need to go.

Make your travel even smoother by downloading and using the 'Promet Split' App. This handy app offers real-time updates on bus schedules, routes, and allows you to purchase tickets directly from your phone, at a discounted rate (at least 50%).

Getting from the airport to the city center is simple. Just hop on the #37 bus on the main road across from the airport, which will take you directly to Split’s city centre bus terminal, located a flat and easy 10 min walk from the old town/Diocletian's Palace.

For beach lovers, the bus service is a great way to reach some of Split’s most beautiful beaches. You can reach popular spots like Bene and Kašjuni with the #12 from the old town 'SVETI FRANE' bus stop 🏖️.

If you’re looking to explore nearby villages and towns, the bus service also has you covered. Take the bus to visit charming places like Trogir( #37), Klis Fortress( #22), Stobreč( #25), and Omiš( #60) with each destination offering a unique experience, glimpse into the rich history and stunning landscapes of the region.

HAPPY TRAVELS! 🚌

BEST BOAT TRIPS FROM SPLIT 🌊☀️🛥️👇…

Croatia’s coast is a natural wonder, especially around Split, where the islands serve as a barrier to keep the waters calm and almost transparent in the shallows.

Dalmatia’s stunning coast just invites exploration by boat, and caters to all different tastes.

🛥️ Catch a breathtaking sunset cruise (includes live music and open bar) with www.polarissplit.com

🛥️ Embark for an action packed, full day exploration by speedboat, Blue Cave and 5-island adventure with https://toto.hr/split/ (post photo)

🛥️ Cruise for a half day to the Blue Lagoon, shipwreck and a private beach for swimming and snorkeling with www.graylinesplit.com

HOW TO VISIT KLIS FORTRESS 🏰 FROM SPLIT...

Just outside of Split you will find the village of Klis. Situated above the village framed by towering cliffs and the surrounding mountain, KLIS FORTRESS is an imposing medieval fortress which has an impressive history dating back over 2000 years.

Fans of the hit show Game of Thrones will recognize the fortress as one of the filming locations. The fictional city of ‘Meereen’ was where Daenerys Targaryen and her army came to free the slaves.

Klis Fortress is still not a big attraction, with only about 15.000 people visit it every year. It also means you won’t be fighting the crowds, and if you go during the off-season you’ll most likely have the whole place to yourself. AND the amazing views are alone are worth the trip!!!

There are a few ways you can visit Klis from Split:

🚗 (15 minute drive)
🚌 (No. 22 from ‘Autobusni Terminal Sukoisan')
🚕 Uber (approx. €15)
👉 Apodos Sightseeing Bus Tours- www.visitsplitcroatia.com

ENTRY PRICES:

Adults - €10
Children (under 15yrs) - €3

TIP:

Included with your entry ticket, you will also receive a complimentary ticket to Stella Croatica only a 5 minute drive away (note: the road is not safe to walk). There you can visit their Olive Oil Museum, Botanical Garden and their wonderful store (complete with lots of different and delicious local product tastings) - www.stella-croatica.hr

YOU WILL NOTICE THIS LOGO ALL OVER SPLIT - but do you know what it means❓…

This round emblem, with the red and white checkerboard design inside, represents the local and beloved football team 'HAJDUK'.

Hajduk fans are fiery, passionate and loyal bunch, in fact I'd go so far to say that it's almost a religion here in Split - at least my husband certainly acts as if it were!

The name ‘Hajduk’ means 'Rebel' and refers to the freedom fighters in Southeastern Europe who fought against the invading Habsburg and Ottoman occupations. That is why the founders of the club gave the club its name.

Founded in 1911, you will see this design, not only in Split, but all over Dalmatia.

HERE ARE SOME FUN WAYS YOU CAN EXPERIENCE THE POLJUD STADIUM WHEN IN SPLIT (The home of Hajduk);

⚽️ ATTEND A GAME - A game at the Poljud stadium, is a spectacle, to say the least and the setting could not be more dramatic (with the Adriatic on one side and the mountains on the other). Tickets are cheap, but whatever you do don't wear blue (this is Dinamo's color - the team from Zagreb and arch-rival to Split!).

🏆 VISIT BEHIND THE SCENES - By visiting the on-site museum and tour. According to the latest info tours are available most days from 10am to 7pm, starting every half hour. The tour includes many behind the scene accesses throughout the stadium, and tickets are available at the on-site gift shop (where you can also purchase tickets to the matches too). If you want to book a tour in advance, you can reach them by telephone @ +385 99 2552 160.

⬆️ CLIMB ABOVE - Get an bird's eye-view over Split by climbing around the rafters and on top of this iconic stadium. AND if you are brave enough to bungee-swing down into the stadium with www.skywalk-poljud.com TRUST ME, you'll never look at the stadium the same way ever again - truly a unique and exhilarating experience!!!

CAN YOU SEE WHY I MOVED TO THIS BEAUTIFUL CITY?! 💙💙💙…

SPLIT literally has it all, from Roman ruins and grand museums alongside fashionable cafes and trendy shops.

But what makes this city most alluring is not just its proximity to the beaches, nearby towns and islands, but its location overlooked by mountains and edged by the deep blue Adriatic Sea.

Split (the second-largest city in Croatia, after the capital Zagreb) buzzes with visitors eager to sample the region’s Dalmatian cuisine, dance the night away in world-class nightclubs, visit sleek galleries and of course swim in the sea.

Still, it is the breathtaking centerpiece of the city - Diocletian’s Palace itself (a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to A.D. 295, and a film location for 'Game of Thrones') that makes Split so memorable.

With more than 200 buildings and 3,000 residents within an eight-acre enclosed space, the 'palace' is a mini-city of its own, full of stone-paved pedestrian paths on which visitors can explore the palace’s treasures.

What’s more, that gorgeous water lapping on the palm-studded 'RIVA' (promenade) just outside the palace, gives you an excuse to linger just a little bit longer - who knows maybe you'll be like me and never leave either!!! 😉

DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS A FREE BUS TO THE MALL OF SPLIT❓...

The free bus line goes from near the ferry port at 'Obala Lazareta' which is located at the east end of the 'RIVA' - Split's main waterfront promenade.

The Mall of Split is a premier shopping destination with over 200 retail brands including international fashion labels. There is also a large super market, food court, casino and a movie theatre (showing movies in their original languages) with a pretty fun 4D option.

A great option for something to get your shopping on in Split, on those occasional rainy days or to enjoy the cool A/C on those sweltering hot summer days!!!

DEPARTURES TO THE MALL OF SPLIT; are at 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 & 18:00.

DEPARTURES FROM THE MALL OF SPLIT; are at 13:00, 15:00, 17:00 & 19:30.
