When two babies turn into 5, how do you find a boat to fit all of them?
Come and sail with our little family. As we say here, Arbeit kann warten. Das leben nicht. (Work can wait, life cannot).
When two babies turn into 5, how do you find a boat to fit all of them?
Happy Birthday to this wonderful dad!!! Wish you were here so we could celebrate together. We love you and miss you š Maik Doerschel
We have two great news to share! Two weeks ago today, we welcomed this beautiful little girl to our family. We canāt get over how perfect she is. Kais and Lila cannot stop fighting on who gets to hold her next and we all agree that she is her Daddyās twin. We love you so much already- Zoe. Weād also like to announce that we have officially sold SV Hatchi to a new family who will get to enjoy her as much as we did. We are in search of a bigger vessel to accommodate our growing family. Weāre so excited about these changes and all the new adventures awaiting. Thank you to all who have followed us on our journey.
Our crew is growing by 1. I think we need a bigger boat. š§š©šæš¦š½š§š½+ š¶š½
When Allyson Felix became pregnant, Nike was prepared to cut the terms of Felix's endorsement by as much as 70% due to the pregnancy, and told her to āknow your place and just run.ā š¤Æ
Amid all of this, she was forced to have an emergency c-section seven months into her pregnancy because of a potentially life-threatening condition and her baby had to live for more than a month in the NICU. But two years later sheās qualified for her fifth Olympics with her daughter watching.
Felix dropped Nike and created her own brand of running shoes, the Saysh One. She is currently running in the Olympics in Japan wearing them under the banner āI Know My Placeā. š
With 11 medals now, she passed Carl Lewis this summer for the most track and field medals by an American in history!
"I used my voice and built this company for you. So that you never have to train at 4:30am while you're 5 months pregnant to hide your pregnancy from your sponsor.ā
Lila is so attached to the new addition of SV Hatchi crew. Swipe left to see how weāve been finding her most mornings. š«£
We went on a local adventure but got lost along the way. We found this nice Tuna at a local fisherman stand! I learned how to properly fillet it. And Kais was in heaven with the Sashimi I made out of it-a definite win for us.
We had such a great time at Le Phare Bleu South African Braai (BBQ). There were so much to activities (egg toss, crab race, tug of war, water activities), food, music and a bonfire. The kids had a blast.
What in the world is Maik reeling in today? It must be something big because they are fighting.
Definitely didnāt want him to be rubbing all that all over me. I can do it myself you know. I guess he wants me 20 years younger š¤Ŗ. Thatās what they say when you bathe in this mud from the SoufriĆØre volcano. And look what he brought with him? Recruitment.
We went to The SoufriĆØre in St. Lucia. It is an active drive in volcano š. I believe it is the only active drive in volcano in the world or at least thatās what we were told. We took the quick tour with a guide then headed to the mud baths. The kids love this hot mud baths and playing with the mud from the volcano.
After our cold bath, we drove to this volcano area and swam in these warm/hot pools. The kids loved these pools the bests. They begged to come back.
When we finally found the Bassin Bleu, the kids jumped right in. The water crispy cold but refreshing.
Lila about caused me a heart attack when she went all in to touch this thing. Can you hear the fear in my voice? These kids have NO fear whatsoever.
On our short hike to Bassin Bleu, Guadeloupe, we found something weāve never seen before. š«£
We are no longer in Guadeloupe but we had a great time there. We took a hike to the Bassin Bleu (Blue Basin) and one of their hot springs (Bains Jaunes). We highly recommend both. We did both on the same day.
Just reach St. Lucia! Now time to relax after over 24 hours at sea.
Oh What a morning š©š«. Our plans to leave Guadeloupe this morning didnāt go as planned. Kais was up all night in pain because he has an ear infection. Iāve been treating it with antibiotics that I brought with me, but it looks like he is resistant to it. This antibiotic worked perfectly fine before. There were no local doctors available to see him in the town we are in. I went to a pharmacy to see if they could help me and I was told, we had to go to the next town over to the hospital. With no car rentals or taxi or bus, we were stuck. I think I was tearing up as I phoned several car rental places to see if anyone would pick up, when a lady who was standing behind me inside the pharmacy approached and offered to drive us to the hospital š. We were able to be seen for only 52 Euros. Thatās the cheapest hospital bill weāve ever paid. The staff at the hospital were amazing. After, we were referred to an ENT specialist and got an appointment immediately after the ER visit. We did have to walk over 1 hour (blame Apple Maps š¤¦š¾āāļø) to the office (usually 30 mins walk) because, again, no taxi, no bus, no car. That visit only cost 50 Euros š¶. Itās unbelievable how affordable medical care here is compared to the states. Now our trip has been postponed by a week and Kais will need surgery in September. We will most likely have to come back to Guadeloupe to do it.
This drink is famous in Guadeloupe. Itās called TiāPunch. Itās made with dark or white rum, brown sugar and lime. You can also add sugar cane syrup in it. When I tell you this is some strrrrrooooong stuff, I am not kidding. It kicked my heart out of my mouth from the shock of the first sip (I swear I got drunk just from that sip). This drink is reserved for Maik but even he said, āit licks the back of your eyeballsā (not sure what this means other than itās for people really serious about rum š¹). Their other famous drink the Planteur is more my type of drink.
Bonus points if you can say the name this town correctly. Itās not what you think šHint: Thereās a lot of silent letters.
Have you heard of the TV show called Death in Paradise? We had either. Apparently, itās at this exact location in Guadeloupe. Itās so awesome we got to visit this location and other locations around town. Great day for exploring.
Safari ride in St. Thomas, USVI was a nice way to see the town. We were unable to rent a car since they were booked out, so we found the next best thing. Nothingās going to keep us from exploring.
We went on a local Safari ride in St. Thomas and it only cost $2 per person. So that was pretty cool. Itās like taking the local bus, which also runs through town, too. They have Taxis as well but that usually costs more than the other two stated above. I think we all enjoyed the ride and feeling like a local.
Can someone explain why things are so expensive in the USVIs in comparison to other islands above and below them? We lived in St. Croix for several months and were shocked by the extreme costs of living. We though and were told āItās an island, things have to be importedā and thatās why it costs so much. As we travel down the islands, weāve noticed that things are not this expensive on many (not all) the islands above and below the USVIs. DR, Cuba, Haiti had decent prices, PR too. Guadeloupe as well. Weāve lived in Antigua before and it wasnāt this extreme (it may be now). I remember going out to eat in St. Croix- a chicken breast and a vegetable side was $40. I donāt know, that just seems a bit much for me. Now I know these are different countries, different rules but Puerto Rico is a US territory and the prices there were higher than the mainland but not so extreme as I have seen it in the USVI-also a US territory.
On our way down from St. Thomas to Guadeloupe, we caught this beautiful female 22lbs Mahi-mahi. So much meat, we can eat for days!
What I love about traveling is all the wonderful people you meet along the way. The kids met āGrannyā on the beach in Water Island, St. Thomas. Something about her drew them to her and they immediately fell in love. I was on the boat working so I didnāt get to be part of that initial meeting. When the kids arrived to the boat, they couldnāt stop talking about Granny. We found out that she has 4 grand-kids that she takes care of after her son passed away 2 years ago. She brought his ashes to this beach and send it out to sea. The kids followed her everywhere and were so fascinated by her stories. This picture of her last day on the island saying goodbye to the kids. Needless to say, Kais and Lila were not happy. Itās been 3 days and theyāve already asked me at least 6 times when weāre going to visit her in Oklahoma.

We arrived to St. Thomas, USVI yesterday and not even 1 hour there the kids wanted to get in the water. Lila said, āI can see the bottom. Letās jump in.ā
Lila singing Happy Birthday to Phillip (Celinaās Boyfriend). They are visiting from Germany š©šŖ.
We went horseback riding in St. Croix with #cruciancowgirls for Lilaās birthday and she absolutely loved it! The experience was better than any toy.
Four year ago today, I gave birth to this tiny little princess on our boat SV Hatchi. Celebrating her 4th birthday today brings up so much emotions. I am so happy that we are still in the same space celebrating as a family and so sad that she is growing up too fast. I remember her being so small and feeling afraid to hold her because I didnāt want to hurt her. Now, she is this ball of fire, who stands up to men. Donāt say anything bad about her brother because you will get a piece of her sharp tongue and mind. Itās crazy that sheās only 4. Happy birthday, our little princess. Keep being you!
We spent Christmas Eve on the beach soaking up the warmth of a bonfire. The whole time all I could think of was the lyrics āChestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire š„ā. The kids thought there were fireflies in the sky as sparks of fire flew into the sky. It was a magical evening šš.
Oh, what a life! These kids love to just jump off the back of Hatchi and swim until their teeth start making music. On this particular day they spotted the ferry that goes between islands speed by under a beautiful rainbow.
