Shibori no Machi Arimatsu was founded in 1608, the 13th year of the Keicho era, shortly after Tokugawa Ieyasu established the shogunate in Edo in the beginning of the Edo period.
The history of Arimatsu Shibori began when the Owari Domain protected Arimatsu Shibori as a special product of the domain and appointed Shokuro Takeda as its official purveyor.
Travelers rushed to buy shibori towels and yukata as souvenirs for their hometowns, and these became the number one specialty of the highway. Narumi-no-yado depicts Arimatsu, and it is written as 'special product Arimatsu Shibori'.
The 200-year-old townscape that conveys the prosperity of the past and the beauty of Japanese architecture is a valuable cultural asset.
