Postcard Jar is a blog (just a fancy name for our personal website), where we share travel and healthy living inspiration to help you take the next step on your journey. Basically, think of us as your guides to new destinations and unique experiences that will inspire you to live your best life. As lifetime lovers

of travel and learning, we take you to interesting places and show you how to make the most of every trip. And, having recently lost a combined 200+ pounds (thanks to a healthy diet and more movement … don’t worry, we’re not selling anything) we also share our best tips for developing a healthier lifestyle. So, whether it’s road tripping through the Midwest, cruising across the oceans, or figuring out how and where to take a hike, we’re excited for you to join us! As for the name, Postcard Jar - when we travel, we purchase a postcard, jot down a few highlights of our trip, and mail it to ourselves back home. We display our postcards in a large, glass jar that sits on a table in our entryway. It’s a constant reminder of where we’ve been, the experiences we’ve gained, and the memories we’ve made along the way. Thank you for coming along on this journey with us. 🍰🧁🥮 Yesterday, we treated our group to a private event with the ship’s Executive Sous Chef Pastry & Baking, Singh Surender of India.

Chef Surender told us when he was a child, he wanted to be a boxer when he grew up. We are so glad that he took the baking route instead. He prepared and decorated three different cakes for our group and told us all about the baking and pastry operations on the ship.

He said they make 4,000 servings of dessert for lunch every day! Mind you, there are only about 3,000 guests on board when the ship is at capacity. 😉

Special group events like this one are so much fun and one of many benefits of cruising with friends of Postcard Jar.

🎵 We’ve had several opportunities throughout our Postcard Jar Friends Cruise for people to gather with others from our group. Yesterday, we formed a team for music trivia. We were not the winners, but we had a lot of fun together.

We had the absolute best time at Silent Disco on the Postcard Jar Friends Cruise last night!

Everyone got headphones and listened to one of three different music channels. We sang and danced and laughed a lot! And Ann’s new knee got quite the work out.

Oh, and that first group picture. Those are the people who stayed up until 11:30 pm dancing!! And they are ALL from Nebraska!

Such a joy (and surprise) to meet up with John and Gail before our Postcard Jar Friends Cruise to the Weatern Caribbean! This will be the third Friends Cruise for John and Gail and we are so excited to sail with them again on the Celebrity Reflection.

Yes, these cruises have been nice vacations for all of us. But more importantly, we’ve made some wonderful, lifelong friends on them.

This week on our Royal Caribbean cruise on the Utopia of the Seas, we stopped in Nassau, Bahamas. And even better, we get to stop there again this week on our Postcard Jar Friends Cruise!

Even if you don't have a shore excursion planned, there's lots to do in an around the port. Here are a few things we recommend:

1. Visit the Museum of Junkanoo. Located just inside the port area in Nassau, this new museum features elaborate costumes and floats and educational exhibits that showcase the rich history, culture, and symbolism of the vibrant local festival called Junkanoo.

2. Stroll through the Straw Market and shop for hand made straw bags, clutches, and other items, made by locals. We had a great visit with Paula in booth #195. There are also lots of t-shirts, toys, wood carvings and other souvenirs there.

3. Try some rum cake. There are lots of small shops where you can try the popular rum cake and take home some packaged cakes for friends and family.

4. Have your hair braided. Right inside the port, there are locals who would love to braid your hair. Get a few rows for less than $20 or do your whole head! We met a really nice woman called "Tinker Bell" who would love to do your hair and welcome you to The Bahamas.

5. Buy a postcard! There are lots of places to buy postcards in and near the port. The one we liked best (and had the best price at 2 for $3) were just outside the port at a small shop called Joann Souvenirs. We always buy a postcard when we travel. We jot down a few of our favorite memories from that place and send (or take) it home to display in a large glass jar that sits on a table in our entryway.

Travel tip: Be sure to stay aware of your surroundings anytime you travel. We always recommend leaving valuables in the safe on the ship. When visiting small shops in Port, for security purposes, we typically try to pay with cash and NOT a credit or debit card.

Sunrise in Orange Beach is almost indescribable. It's a special, magical time of day. Calming, yet powerful, it leaves you with a sense of awe and optimism about your upcoming day. Our Story

We’re Steve and Ann Teget and split our time between a small, rural town in Nebraska and another one in Oklahoma. We love living on The Great Plains, but we also desire to see new places and experience new things. So we travel. And we write authentic stories at www.postcardjar.com about the places we’ve been and the experiences we’ve shared in hopes of influencing others to just #goplaces!

For a long time, we focused on our careers and spent more than two decades in corporate America and public education. Like many others, we ran the rat race year after year and longed for the days when we could take a real vacation without having to worry about checking our emails or answering phone calls. Then, enough was enough. Ann stopped working in 2014 when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness and after months of consideration and prayer, Steve quit his job as a middle school principal in 2017 so we could enjoy more time together and explore some other business opportunities in the travel industry.

For now, we’re taking some time to focus on health, family, ministry, travel, and whatever else makes us smile. We’re glad you’re here and hope you’ll come along on our journey.

Why Postcard Jar?

Ann read a home decorating blog post on Young House Love about saving postcards from places you visit and displaying them in a glass vase. She loved the idea and from that point on in May of 2011, whenever we traveled together we’d send a postcard back home.

The first postcard we sent home was from the home of our first U.S. President, George Washington. We jotted down highlights from our visit on the postcard, including the view from the rocking chairs on the back porch overlooking the Potomac River and the Maryland shore.

After we got married, Ann bought a big jar and over the last six years, we’ve added more than 100 postcards to the jar which adorns a table in the entryway of our home. Our postcard jar is a constant reminder of where we’ve been and the things we’ve experienced together and we couldn’t think of a more fitting name for our blog.

More fun facts

We absolutely love Nebraska Cornhusker football and anxiously count the days until the next kickoff when we can eat Runzas and yell “Go Big Red.” Don’t know what Runza is? It’s worth a trip to Memorial Stadium to find out.

Ann had a daughter when she was 24 and raised her as a single parent until she met Steve and they were married in 2011.

Our daughter, Meghan, graduated from the University of Nebraska – Omaha with a degree in Spanish and is now pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing. She also loves to travel and even wrote a guest post for us called, “What I learned traveling with my mom.”

Steve is great at card tricks and often entertains random people in airports with his magic.

Neither of us was married until we were 38 and 42. We dated for a year and had a short engagement. We bought a house, finished the basement and planned a formal wedding in less than two months (and took a two-week vacation during that time, as well).

Steve is a big fan of bacon.

Ann is obsessed with cleaning the kitchen counters.

Steve was a four-year varsity letterman in fencing at Lawrence University. Ann was a two-time state champion golfer at Crete High School
