And, having recently lost a combined 200+ pounds (thanks to a healthy diet and more movement … don’t worry, we’re not selling anything) we also share our best tips for developing a healthier lifestyle. So, whether it’s road tripping through the Midwest, cruising across the oceans, or figuring out how and where to take a hike, we’re excited for you to join us! As for the name, Postcard Jar - when we travel, we purchase a postcard, jot down a few highlights of our trip, and mail it to ourselves back home. We display our postcards in a large, glass jar that sits on a table in our entryway. It’s a constant reminder of where we’ve been, the experiences we’ve gained, and the memories we’ve made along the way. Thank you for coming along on this journey with us. 🌊💪 Recovering in Paradise! 💪🌊

Since my total knee replacement, I’ve been splashing my way to recovery at the heated indoor pools at Turquoise Place by Spectrum Resorts – and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer! Who knew rehab could feel this good? (I mean, I don’t *need* the hot tub after every workout, but let’s just say I’m very thorough with my recovery routine! 😉)

These pools are a snowbird’s dream! With one in each tower, they’re perfect for a leisurely swim, some gentle exercises, or just floating around pretending to be a mermaid (just me?). And if you’re looking for a little social time, the aqua classes three days a week in the winter months are a great way to work out and chat with fellow snowbirds.

We’ve loved every moment spent with her over the past year, from shared holidays to heartfelt conversations. She brings so much joy to our lives, and today, we celebrate a wonderful mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

🧆What is your go-to potluck dish?🌴✨ One of our favorite things about Turquoise Place is the incredible sense of community—especially at the Wednesday night potlucks! These gatherings are the perfect way to share good food, great conversations, and plenty of laughs with new friends. We participated in our last one for this year last night and it was sad to say goodbye to so many new friends.

Of course, we took charcuterie cups (with leftover supplies from our class) and a couple King Cakes, since it is Mardi Gras next week.

Turquoise Place offers so many opportunities for snowbirds to meet others and socialize, from potlucks to fun activities throughout the week. It’s truly a place where connections are made, and memories are shared!

We feel so lucky to be part of this vibrant community. Who else loves the snowbird life at Turquoise Place? 🍲❤️

🎉 We had an absolute BLAST teaching our Charcuterie Cups & More Class at Turquoise Place by Spectrum Resorts! 🎉

From showing guests how to cut the perfect kiwi to crafting cured meat flowers (yes, Steve demonstrated his meat-folding finesse), we shared all our favorite charcuterie tips and tricks. We even revealed the secret to cutting cheese wedges into perfect triangles—because life’s too short for lopsided cheese!

Oh, and let’s not forget the charcuterie cups! We showed participants how to assemble these little masterpieces, perfect for parties, book club, or Bunko gatherings. Plus, we sprinkled in some fun charcuterie trivia along the way. Who knew learning could be so delicious? Everyone got to eat (or take back to their condo) two charcuterie cups and a list of ideas for delicious charcuterie combos.

Our daughter, Meghan, is visiting us for a few days at Turquoise Place. So, we’re toasting to National Margarita Day today with a Skinny Watermelon Margarita from Change of Pace - a pool side eatery here at the resort.

It has both breakfast and lunch menus and lots of fruity drinks. It’s a perfect place for poolside or beach snack, lunch with friends, or an afternoon cocktail. You can even open a tab and charge to your condo if you’re a guest of Spectrum Resorts.

🍧 Looking for a sweet treat in Orange Beach? We found a great NEW spot! Bahama Buck's just opened here, and trust us – this isn’t your average flavored ice stand. Their "snow" is SO soft and fluffy, it’s like eating a cloud (a really delicious, sugary cloud).

With a HUGE menu and tons of unique flavors, there’s something for everyone. We tried the Unicorn Snow (almost too pretty to eat...almost), the Oreo Snow (dessert heaven), and a refreshing acai bowl that was absolutely delish!

While a little sweet for our palates, we think kids will especially love the vibrant colors and fun toppings. 🎉 And parents will appreciate the friendly service and convenient location (right by Publix on the main stretch). And, you can even purchase snowballs for a snowball fight. That sounded crazy to these Nebraskans who have seen more snow than we'd like. However, they seem to be a big hit down south.

**Cooking in Comfort at Turquoise Place** 🍳☀️

One of the things we love most about spending time during the winter months at Turquoise Place in Orange Beach is the **amazing kitchen** in our condo. It’s HUGE—so big, in fact, that we’re pretty sure we could cook a full holiday meal here (and still have room to dance around while we do it).

✔️ **Massive eat-in counter**—perfect for morning coffee, late-night snacks, or just chatting while someone else does the cooking.
✔️ **Dining table for six+**—great for meals, puzzles, or when the family comes to visit.
✔️ **Sub-Zero fridge**—because we need space for fresh seafood, cold drinks, and way too many fresh fruits and veggies.
✔️ **More cupboard space than we know what to do with** (seriously, we could stock up for the whole winter).
✔️ **Fully equipped**—griddle, crock pot, blender, toaster… all the basics so we don’t have to bring much from home.

We love exploring all the great restaurants along Alabama’s beaches, but some nights, it’s just nice to cook a meal, sit at the table, and enjoy this beautiful place we get to call home for a few weeks. And with plenty of space, there’s always room for family and friends to join you. 🏖️❤️

On our way from Miami to Orange Beach, Ala., we stopped to visit Ann’s cousin James and his husband Steve in The Villages, Florida—aka the land of golf carts, endless activities, and more social events than a college campus. 🏡☀️

James and Steve took us on the ultimate Villages adventure, zipping around in their golf cart (because that’s just how you roll here) to check out the live entertainment, an eagle’s nest and some very dignified neighborhood owls. 🦅🦉

After our wildlife tour, we grabbed dinner at a local pizza joint, where the conversation was as good as the food. 🍕💬 It was so great catching up, laughing, and soaking in that Florida warmth—both the sunshine and the company!

The next morning, James and Steve invited us to go to church with them, which was so nice after being on the road for a month. We heard a fantastic guest pastor speak and saw a bit of the campus there. We loved the outdoor, cross-shaped baptismal pool.

The Villages is like summer camp for grown-ups, with a club or activity for just about everything—pickleball, painting, dancing, woodworking, and even synchronized golf cart drill teams (yes, really). If you can dream it, there’s probably a club for it!

Fun fact: If you ever want to test out The Villages life for yourself, they have places you can rent for a week or even the whole winter. But be warned—once you experience the golf cart life, you may never want to leave! 🚘😆

🌴 Greetings from Orange Beach, Alabama! As you may have heard, we escaped the Midwest winter and are at the gorgeous Turquoise Place, where the views are stunning, and the temperatures are a little more bearable (no snow shovels required).

Who says you can’t have fun at the beach in the winter? It might be February, but there’s still plenty to do here – and the best part? No crowds! We can actually get into restaurants without a two-hour wait.

🌊If you're looking for a fun and laid-back spot to hang with friends High Tide Daiquiris & Mimosas in Gulf Shores, Alabama, should definitely be on your list! This family-owned business gave us the perfect relaxed afternoon, and it did not disappoint.

🧀 We kicked things off with a beautiful charcuterie board—the perfect combo of savory bites to snack on while soaking up the beachy atmosphere.

🍹 The daiquiri flight was a sweet and refreshing hit, and since it's the 50th anniversary of the Bushwhacker, we figured it was only right to honor the occasion with a flight of those too! (Spoiler: totally worth it.)

🥂 To top it all off, Scott surprised us with complimentary samples of their key lime daiquiris, and wow—so good! Creamy, tart, and the perfect tropical treat.

🦆 Though we didn’t hop on the adorable flamingo and swan-shaped pedal boats this time, they looked like a blast—definitely adding that to the "next time" list!

Our Story

We’re Steve and Ann Teget and split our time between a small, rural town in Nebraska and another one in Oklahoma. We love living on The Great Plains, but we also desire to see new places and experience new things. So we travel. And we write authentic stories at www.postcardjar.com about the places we’ve been and the experiences we’ve shared in hopes of influencing others to just #goplaces!

For a long time, we focused on our careers and spent more than two decades in corporate America and public education. Like many others, we ran the rat race year after year and longed for the days when we could take a real vacation without having to worry about checking our emails or answering phone calls. Then, enough was enough. Ann stopped working in 2014 when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness and after months of consideration and prayer, Steve quit his job as a middle school principal in 2017 so we could enjoy more time together and explore some other business opportunities in the travel industry.

For now, we’re taking some time to focus on health, family, ministry, travel, and whatever else makes us smile. We’re glad you’re here and hope you’ll come along on our journey.
