First time for my cruise-crazy clients to experience Celebrity on the beautiful Celebrity Beyond with a Panama Canal & Caribbean 11-night cruise! Do you think they enjoyed the experience? (Spoiler alert- They returned last week and are already booked on back to back sailings on the brand new Celebrity Xcel making its debut next year!) Photos from their first day on the ship! 🚢😎

Thanksgiving aboard the beautiful, new Utopia of the Seas! 🚢⚓️🦃 My longtime clients had the chance to experience my favorite way to spend Thanksgiving… cruising! Zero time spent in the kitchen and all the time spent relaxing and enjoying time together. 😎 Check out the pretty turkey and Beef Wellington dinners, too! These seasoned Royal Caribbean cruisers easily agree Utopia is their favorite Royal Caribbean ship so far (though I’ll have them reassess after they take their first Icon of the Seas cruise in 2025😂).

They also are my first clients to experience “Royal Railway-Utopia Station, a five-course journey of American favorites with an upscale twist as the sights, sounds and flavors of the Wild West unfold all around you”. 🤠🚂🚃🚃. Check out the photos!!

Utopia of the Sea’s alternating 3 and 4 night Bahama cruises out of Pt Canaveral have been very popular with my family clients who want a quick getaway, or have limited vacation time.

I already have several Thanksgiving cruises in the books for 2025!

Last post of our Spain adventure….Have you seen these Starbucks self-service kiosks? We saw them in both Gran Canaria and Madrid airports. Worked well, coffee was good and it was quick.

We came home happy with lots of great new memories and friends. Can’t wait for the next adventure!

One of my favorite things about Madrid is the beautiful, tile street signs. These ceramic street signs are a collaboration between artist Ruiz de Luna González and the Madrid City Council to preserve the city's history and promote Talavera ceramics. González created about 1,500 signs using the traditional Talavera technique to depict the guild or trade that historically occupied the street/area.

As was the custom at that time, artisans formed guilds, each of which congregated in certain districts. If you were after leather, for instance, you’d head to the Ribera de Curtidores, or if you wanted some buttons for your elegant threads, you’d go to the Calle de Botoneras. These weren’t the official names of the streets of course, but more or less you could navigate the city in reference to whatever trade was plied in any particular area.

I wish I’d taken more photos of these lovely signs!

In my top 3 things we did in our 17 days…. My goofy grin and behavior in the video tells it all. 😂 I probably was way more excited than any person should be for this, but I love doing things that are unique or at least things I’ve not done before, and I certainly had never bought secret cookies from cloistered nuns I couldn’t see, having to speak Spanish. Well, that is if you can call what I said speaking Spanish.😂😂

I found out about this while researching our trip and knew this was on my Must Do list. These cloistered nuns bake and sell cookies but because they can’t be seen, there’s a whole process to it!

First of all, it’s not easy to find the place. It’s off a side street and there’s only a little paper sign attached to the door. You have to beep in through the intercom asking in Spanish if they have any cookies today. If so, they will buzz you in. You then make your way down a few corridors until you get to the wooden turntable built like a lazy Susan but with walls so you can’t see in. You ask what kind of cookies they have (they sell about 6-7 kind but usually only have 1-2 types each day), tell them which, what size and how many, then you put your money on the turntable, it gets spun around and you have your box of cookies. I had wanted the almond ones and happily she had them. Bonus, they were SO GOOD! They surprisingly tasted like coconut macaroons!!! And no one make fun of my “Spanish”!

1- Breakfast hot chocolate/churros comparison between yesterday’s Chocolat Chocolateria to the oldest, most well known Chocolatería San Ginés (yep, they do chocolate for breakfast in Spain!!) ☕️

2- Our secret nun cookie adventure 🍪 (sooo cool to me and separate post coming!)

3-Walking through various Madrid neighborhoods 🏘️🏛️

4-El Retiro Park 🌳 ( reminds me of a smaller Central Park)

5-Prado Museum 🖼️

6- Dinner with new cruise friends ☺️

Flamenco show in an authentic, intimate tablao. A tablao is a venue where flamenco shows are performed, and the wooden stage itself is also called a tablao. They seated us as front and center as it gets, our table being two feet from the front of the stage. Talk about immersive experience! I didn’t understand what Flamenco was until this. Loved every minute. It is unscripted, unchoreographed, and impromptu. There was one guitarist, two male singers, one singer/dancer and three other dancers. All were on stage the whole time but took turns either singing or dancing. After it was over, two of the performers gave a short explanation that this is like their form of jam sessions and they never know what they are going to do, thus never able to repeat it. Fascinating and fabulous! A few video clips to follow. 💃🏻

We kicked off our first night in Madrid on a tapas and history tour. So much fun! Each of the places we went specialized in a particular dish which we learned is typical of most taverns.

Last cruise night! ❤️ We had dinner and celebrated a great cruise with our news friends, Alison and Roy from the UK. We met them on the third day and hung out with them each night thereafter. We will miss them! I can say without hesitation that we met more people on this cruise than we ever have on any other cruise and it added so much to our experience. Now on to Madrid!

Delicious lunch on the beach at La Casa Roja. We had a shrimp dish and papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), which is a traditional Canary Island dish of salted, boiled potatoes served with a chili pepper garlic sauce called mojo rojo.

Playa de Las Canteras, such a beautiful beach! It is almost 2 miles long and is unique because of its more than 100,000 year old natural limestone reef (La Barra) about 200 yards from shore that runs almost the entire length of the beach and acts as a natural breakwater. There were some people snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking, and down in the southern area where there’s no barrier, tons of surfers. We saw people who had swum out to La Barra and were walking along it which looked fun!

There was more than one section of the beach for those with mobility challenges where a lifeguard will wheel you down in a wheelchair and help you get into the water and then come back to wheel you out.

We walked the whole stretch from north to south and back again with a combo of beach and boardwalk. Temperature was low 70s and sunny. Year round average is 70 degrees air and 68 degrees water!

Gran Canaria was our third and final Canary Island visit. Although there is so much to see and do on the island, we decided to primarily make this a beach day. Great decision, and we really enjoyed ourselves. But first we made two other stops, to see Castillo de la Luz and surprise, surprise, to walk through the local market.

The Port Market in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a beautiful modernist structure made from cast iron. It was assembled and opened in 1891 following a design process by French company Eiffel who also was responsible for the Eiffel Tower in Paris!
