A Couple Of Beers Travel A couple of travellers on a world adventure... Join us! We’ve been to far flung lands before but this is the start of our first long term travel experience.
(1)

We’re Nicola and Steve, two everyday folk from the UK who, one day in January, 2014, decided to take the plunge and head off on an adventure to the far side of the world! Starting August 2014 in Singapore (for a stopover but hey, we’re going to make the most of it!), we then head to New Zealand, Australia, Asia and anywhere we decide to around and after that. We’re travelling on a minimal budget,

hoping to work here and there to top up the funds, and on the way, we’ll be chatting to local people, fellow travelers and anyone we can whilst hopefully imparting some useful tips and knowledge along the way. It’s exciting, a learning experience, slightly terrifying and an absolute dream. Yes we’ll visit the tourist parts of the world. They’re major attractions for a reason after all. We really want to get under the skin of each place, learn from local people and explore as much as we can. Hidden temples to simple cafes. Pristine beaches to comic book conventions and music festivals. This will not be the usual travel blog for sure. Join us as we make inevitable mistakes, become frustrated, tired and are taken out of our comfort zone whilst having the best time of our lives! Oh yeah, “why A Couple Of Beers?” you ask… Well, we had a running joke that each bit of money we manage to save would equate to the cost of a couple of beers in a country where it may be more expensive. Even if that amount is £80! Plus, we’re a couple. It’s a ridiculous incentive and also something which always brings a smile to our faces. We aim to enjoy ourselves and relax on this trip as well as pack in as much as possible so it also relates to just taking the time to absorb the location rather than take a bunch of photos and move on.

This looks pretty epic! Anyone planning to do it?

One of the great things that stems from visiting and learning about other countries is that we have the opportunity to learn new ways of living and thinking.

This particular cultural idea seems a no-brainer. Implementation would be trickier in the UK given our broken education system however despite the obvious benefits of fresh, cheap, delicious, and healthy food, learning where food comes from, how it's made and the humility in serving and cleaning would definitely go a long way to developing more informed, healthy, empathetic kids.

What do you think?

Recently we featured a world map that labels each country not with its name in English, but its name in its own language.

Any of you who watched The World's Most Luxurious Airline on Channel 4 (UK) might want to learn how we maximised our chances of booking free or hugely reduced flights using points on everyday purchases and frequent flyer miles.

The show was a fascinating look at the "turn left" 1st Class experience on Singapore Airlines.

We're using our frequent flyer miles and American Express points to fly to New York with them in April. We'll be turning right when boarding however. ;)

See how we used point to book with Singapore Airlines on our website.

Shark Week is an excuse for tv channels such as Nat Geo and Discovery to put out sensationalist rubbish featuring sharks. Yes they're an apex predator but the chances of people being attacked or killed by one are still low and as long as you respect their territory you'll be fine. Same as any other land based predator.

As you travel, enjoy wildlife, respect it, and question any organisation who subscribes to this narrative.
