Set your timers because Tonight at 9pm on Channel 5 Fred Olsen’s flagship Bolette will feature in the new series of Susan Calman's Cruise of a Lifetime on Channel 5 this month.

TOP TIPS - ⚓️Is Anyone booked on an Eastern Med Cruise?⚓️

✨Last month I shared my top tips for getting around on a Canary Islands Cruise. This week I cover Eastern Med cruise ports.✨

These Tips are mainly for help and advice if you wanted to do your own thing on arrival. Feel free to add your own experience in the comments box .

1. Rome
🔴Ships dock at Civitavecchia Cruise terminal
🔴The distance from Termini Station in Rome City Centre to Civitavecchia port station is one hour by a direct train £4.16pp
🔴The distance from Civitavecchia port station to the ship is one mile, a shuttle bus can take you from the station to the side of the ship for 6 Euros or cabs are also available although more expensive
🔴You can take a train from Ciampino and Fumicino Airport in Rome to Civitavecchia station and it takes 90 minutes with one change.
🔴Trains can be booked via the Trainline App

2. Chania - Crete
🔵The distance from the cruise port to the Old Town of Chania is 7 kilometres
🔵Check with your cruiseline for a free shuttle bus, takes about 15 minutes by bus, taxis available at the port
🔵From the centre of the Old Town is a 15 minute walk to the market or a 15 minute walk to the beautiful harbour

3.Kotor - Only 1 berth so could be a tender port
🟢On arrival of the port turn left and walk about two minutes until you see the vendors/ticket sales on their boats
🟢 Blue Caves for example is a 3 hour excursion and costs 40 euros
🟢 The old town is just across from the port and is walkable on your own.
🟢If you can manage to climb the fortress 1380 steps the view from the top in wonderful.

4.Naples
🟣 Distance to Naples City Centre from the cruise port is a 15/20 minute walk
🟣 30 minute walk will take you to Naples Train Station - too far? cabs readily available, or Metro opposite where you dock is now available and will take you to the train station if you prefer
🟣Train only takes 30 minutes, is direct from Naples to Pompeii and costs £3pp
🟣Distance from Pompeii train station to the ruins is a 15 minute walk
🟣Distance from the cruise port to the ferry terminal is a 10 minute flat walk
🟣Ferry takes about 50 minutes to Capri is 27 euros each way and departs every 60 minutes.

5.Athens
🟡When you disembark and go through security on your left hand side you are greeted by hop on hop off buses, 20 euros pp.
🟡Ubers are a plenty so if you have the app, once outside the port gates then grab an Uber, takes 30 minutes to The Acropolis and costs 20 euros each way
🟡Ubers are so much cheaper than the yellow cabs
🟡You will also see the express buses outside of the security entrance and costs 1.10 euros to take you to Athens City Centre or 4.20 euros pp for a day pass.

6.Kusadasi
🟠Ships dock right in the city centre
🟠A short flat walk will take you straight to the shops bars and restaurants
🟠My recommendation is Ephesus including Terrace Houses and the House of Virgin Mary . (Take a hat and plenty of water as not much shade)
🟠If you have done this then flat and lovely walk along the waterfront
🟠Taxis readily available and much cheaper outside of the cruise port.
🟠A turkish bath can be booked at the Mensa Spa , in the Queen Marin hotel a mile away from the cruise port.

7. Corfu
🔴From the cruise port it is a 30 min walk to Corfu Old town a distance of 3 kilometers.
🔴A bus leaves the cruise port every 15 minutes and takes 10 minutes if you prefer not to walk and is about 2 euros each way.
🔴Some cruiselines operate a FREE return shuttle to the old town also.
🔴Outside of the port are many taxi drivers offering you tours of the Island, great if a group of you but always do your research.
🔴Grab a cab to the beautiful Glyfada Beach for around $30 each way and takes about 20 minutes .

Mykonos
🟡Check whether your cruise ship is docking as a tender or at the New Port of Mykonos
🟡New Port is 1.5 miles away from Mykonos Old Town and is walkable
🟡Lots of transportation at the port to choose from.
🟡Some cruiselines offer a return shuttle bus from the port to the old town of Mykonos for $9pp return
🟡You can also book the Seabus water taxi to Mykonos Town from the port for 4 euros per person each way, but the queues can be lengthy.

❌Please note if you are doing an itinerary that includes Italy, Greece and Turkey like I did then you need to be aware of the time difference. ❌
Italy is 1 hour ahead of uk time
Greece is 2 hours ahead of uk time
Turkey is 2 hours ahead of uk time
Your daily activity schedule and your tv in your cabin will keep you up to date with the correct time for changing your watches/phones. It is just to be aware , as can be confusing onboard as there can be 3 time changes in the space of a few days where the clocks keep going forward.

☀️Good Morning Happy Saturday ☀️ Are you booked on a Canaries Cruise this winter and visiting for the 1st time?

Here is some helpful information and my TOP TIPS regarding each port itself for when you dock!

1. Vigo
🔴Ships normally dock at Muelle Transatlantic 2 Cruise terminal
🔴The distance from the pier to the city is 200 metres, fabulous for shopping and lovely cobbled streets with many restaurants
🔴Walking distance to the city is approx 5-10 minutes, hilly in places
🔴Taxis available outside of the terminal

2. Funchal - Madeira
🔵The distance from the pier to the city is approx 600 metres
🔵The walking distance to town is approx 20-25 minutes
🔵The walk to town is slightly uphill and the pavements can be uneven at times
🔵If booked with Princess cruises Shuttle buses are available from the pier to the city and are about $14.95pp and run every 20 minutes and take about 10 minutes - the drop off point is Marina Shopping Mall on Avenida Arriaga

3. Las Palmas - Gran Canaria
🟢The distance from the pier to the town is approx 800 metres, lovely beach and shops bars and restaurants here.
🟢Walking distance to the town is approx 10-20 minutes and is flat
🟢Local taxi options available outside of the terminal but not guaranteed

4. Santa Cruz - Tenerife
🟡The distance from the pier to the old town is approx 0.6 miles
🟡Walking distance approx a 20 minute walk
🟡Local taxi options available outside of the terminal

5. Arrecife - Lanzarote
🟠The distance from the pier to the nearest town is 1 mile
🟠Walking distance 25 minutes or a 5 minute drive
🟠I jumped in a taxi to matagorda and walked into puerto del carmen for time at the beach and a nice lunch
🟠On the walk into town there are shops restaurants etc
🟠Taxis available outside of the terminal

6. Lisbon - Portugal
🟣The distance from the pier to the old city of Alfama is 500 metres
🟣Walking distance to Praca do Comercio, Lisbons main square and the true start of the city is a 20 minute walk
🟣Hop on hop off buses and taxis outside the terminal
🟣Very cheap Underground system fabulous and just a short walk from the pier

Why this hotel is always my first choice when staying overnight in Southampton before my cruise….. I mean what a view to wake up too🫶 They offer a great value Cruise package rate too which includes parking, One night Bed & Breakfast and a taxi to your cruise terminal. Although if you are on a 2/3 night cruise with not much luggage the terminal is that near you could walk it.
