Sure, while services like Estonian-born Skype make long distance easier than ever, nothing beats quality face-to-face time. In an increasingly global employment landscape, with trends such as digital nomadism and micro entrepreneurship on the rise, ease of business and bringing your team together has never been more important. Why plan reunions with your friends, family and partners in the same city when you can fly off to destinations as diverse as Copenhagen, Istanbul, Paris, and Milan? On the never-ending search for budget flights to keep the important people close, who enjoys flicking back-and-forth between multiple browser windows and painstakingly inputting different search options? Finding affordable flights to the same destination is time intensive enough without the challenge of synchronising arrival and departure times. Where is the fun in meeting up for weekend city-break if one person arrives 12 hours after the other?
Tripmatch was born out of founder couple Catherine and Ostap’s experience first dating as students back in 2014. Frequent travelling between the Ukraine, U.K., Italy and Estonia, living abroad can be challenging, so can long distance... The process of turning Tripmatch from an idea into a reality was begun by a team of developers at the Skype University Hackathon in Tallinn in April 2015. The first prototype – built in just 48 hours - went onto win both First Prize from the judges and the People’s Choice Award. Spurred on by this initial success and the ‘can-do’ atmosphere of the Estonian tech scene (whose resumé boasts companies from Skype to Transferwise), our team put their heads together to develop our concept into a fully-fledged website. Tripmatch now fully functional, was featured by the Skyscanner Partner Magazine and is enjoyed by users from all over the globe.
