It’s too early, I know, but I do have spring fever already. Sitting on that mossy bank with a cup of coffee is my own favorite way to start the day when I stay at Blue Quill Cabin.

For the renovation of the cabin there was some hand-wringing about not just painting the pine paneling, but in the end removing it entirely (sending it to a new home) and replacing it with shiplap. No regrets.

In this before and after, what's amazing to me is that there had been no windows on the wall to the left of the front door. There's no better improvement than windows/light.

A little before and after to kick off the year. The only redeeming quality to the original kitchen was the sweet metal cupboard with the glass doors. Otherwise, having your water heater prominently displayed is not optimal. (And check out the screw in fuses in the "electrical panel"!)

I blew out the wall between the kitchen and living room, extended the space by about 3 ft so I could add a peninsula, and also so I could bump out the loft overhead to accommodate an on-demand water heater and pressure tank up there. Sometimes just a few square feet can make all the difference.

It's actually quite a spacious kitchen in terms of counters. And you can admire the Neversink River from the sink. The wraparound deck (and the grill) are right outside the door.

Guest cancelled a week's stay! So snap up dates for this magical cabin and spend Christmas in the Catskills! Relax around a crackling fire in the stone fireplace, and prepare tasty meals in the well-appointed kitchen. This renovated, comfortable cabin has high speed wifi, but hopefully you'll spend more time exploring along the Neversink River out back or strolling down the uber peaceful dead end lane. Thought I'd revisit the pretty transformative renovation with a little Before + After, taken from the same angle. Same original floors, and ceiling that had been paneled by a previous owner. But loads of new windows (electrical, foam insulation, etc.) and a massive amount of white paint.

Some cringe at painting the boards, but in fact this pine paneling was removed and given away for reuse in someone else's home.

Walking along the rocky shore of the Neversink River just behind Blue Quill Cabin is a delight whether it's your first or your hundredth time, whether in the full glory of fall colors, or in the dead of winter. Small children like throwing rocks in the water and hearing the kerplunk, while adults often find themselves gazing through the break in the trees out at Red Hill and becoming lost in thought.
