MINDWORKS, the annual performance and experimental art show of the UP Cebu Fine Arts Program, returns for its 38th year with the theme “Boang Boangon Ang Boang”.

The phrase, seemingly nonsensical at first glance, is a call to introspect and unpack the concept of the boang. Here, the word boang does not denote a figure. Instead, it points to the absurd—a senseless experience or situation beyond rationality. But because our present world is seemingly oversaturated with so much absurdity, we have created a bizarre culture that evades truth, glorifies violence, and amplifies discord. We have become so accustomed to the ridiculous that we mistake it for normalcy. The theme, then, urges people to interrogate this deceptive facade, unveil the boang for what it is, and break free from it.

Join us this February 26-March 2 as we celebrate MINDWORKS 38.

Ready na ba ka, boang? This year, we have prepared something never been done before in UP Cebu history (COA!!!) Starting tomorrow, Monday, from February 19 to February 23, we will host ABSURD WEEK, a new twist to UP Cebu's very own Crazy Day 🤯

For the entire week, we will be encouraging everyone to follow the dress-up prompts below from Monday to Friday leading up to the highly anticipated CRAZY DAY PARADE on February 26!

Monday - dress like you’re on the beach ⛱️🌊☀️
Tuesday - dress like an athlete 🏀🎾🥊
Wednesday - no bag, no shoes day 🚫👟🚫🎒🚫
Thursday - dress like an artwork 🥖🎨🖌
Friday - dress like it’s prom day 👸🤴👑

Everyday during the Absurd Week, one person with the most creative look for the day will get a chance to win merch from beloved Cebuano artists and be featured on our social media platforms ✨️

WORLD AIDS DAY FORUM

The UPC University Student Council, in partnership with Cebu United Rainbow LGBTQ+ Sector (CURLS) & UP Cebu Gender and Development Office (UPC GAD), invites all iskolars to celebrate and join in the World Aids Day Forum this coming December 1 (Friday). In line with the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), this forum presents a series of discussions about HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), LGBT Health, and SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression) as a human right.

The campaign, beginning from November 25 until December 12, banners the theme of a United UP Cebu for a safe space university. Part and parcel of achieving a safe space, especially from violence and discrimination, always begins with talking about these issues in the name of breaking the stigma. This forum, among amny others, is a manifestation of such a step towards safer spaces-- by knowing and talking about our health and our rights, we are one step closer to the UP Cebu we deserve.

The last day of UP PRIDE WEEK 2023 is here, but our closing celebrations are just about to begin. Join us at our culminating Pride Night in the AS Hall from 6:00-9:00PM for drag and musical performances from our own local Cebuano artists! Once again, we encourage everyone to come in whatever allows you to feel most comfortable in your self-expression.

Our registration starts at 5:45PM and then we will begin at 6PM with our entrance walks and opening remarks, to be followed by drag and musical performances, a special ballroom house challenge, and will be finished by an awarding of the challenge winners and closing remarks.

A Q***R TALKS forum will happen in ASX 205 from 4:30-6:00PM on October 24, 2023, with Executive Director of Bisdak Pride, Mx. Roxanne Omega-Doron. They will speak about their personal reflections on their experiences as a member of the LGBT community, as well as the struggles the community faces for SOGIE equality.

So, if you want to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community, and be more aware of personal and social issues we all face, please join us for some truly insightful events. Mao na ni ang imo opportunity to slay, so we hope to see you there!

MGA BAYOT NG BAYAN, IT’S TIME TO 𝓼𝓵𝓪𝔂 AT UP PRIDE WEEK 2023!

In solidarity with UP Pride (https://www.facebook.com/uppride), we are excited to announce that we are bringing the systemwide celebration of PRIDE to UP Cebu! From October 23 to 27, events around the campus will be held to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, educate students about Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE), as well as push for the passing of anti-discrimination legislation in the whole country– something that should’ve already happened in Asia’s “most gay-friendly” country. (Charot!) We, as members of the LGBTQ+ community, must stand together against deep rooted injustices against all marginalized groups. Join us this week to make your voice be heard and SERVEEEE … the people!

UP Pride Week will officially open on Monday, October 23 with the Pride Walk which will begin at 12PM, outside the Library Building. As we will walk to call for our rights to be respected and our identities be acknowledged, we encourage everyone to come in clothes that they feel best represents them and their sexual identity or gender expression.

On Tuesday, October 24 a Q***r Talks forum will happen from 4:30-6PM at ASX 205 with our resource speaker, Executive Director of Bisdak Pride Mx. Roxanne Omega-Doron, where they will discuss personal reflections on the q***r experience and the struggles for SOGIE equality in the Philippines.

On the same day, October 24, there will also be a Q***r Film Marathon from 10-12PM and 1-5PM in Lawak Sinehan.

The Pride week will close on Friday, October 27 with UP Pride Night, which will showcase special performances from local q***r artists.
