- Two most important communication skills are self-talk (how we talk about ourselves) and the ability to listen.

- Performance over time is balancing a personal and purposeful life.

- You cannot give anyone your experience. They have to earn that on their own.

- Success is how long you can stay in the game and how much you can grow over time.

- Be ruthlessly simple.

- Start with the big rocks first.

- Quality over quantity in training. Great players expend less energy as they get better and become more efficient.

- Remove the fear of getting out of your comfort zone and focus on your weakness to allow them to perform at an elite level over time.

1. Yoga and meditation while setting an intention for the session.

2. Dust off the cookbooks or attempt to create the desired Pinterest dish.

3. Spend more quality time with yourself by doing outdoor activities.

4. Start a new hobby.

5. Spend quality time with everyone in your household by playing board games, DIY projects, etc.

Our preferred style is typed; however, we take handwritten notes. Our daily notebook contains everything from action items to connection meetings, etc.

Due to, conversations regarding justice issues in 2020 our clients and their leaders found themselves occupying their time on their organization's internal issues. Also, recognizing diversity is a necessity in their organizations.

The plan to bring diversity into their organizations was to keep conversations centered on the overall strategy for the fiscal year.

Strategic plans are the thoughts regarding what is "next" aka the future! A two-year strategic plan focused on the near term might be the best option if; due to, COVID your organization is uncertain of its future.

We are in awe of what a transformative year of learning we and everyone had! Both ExecuHive and our clients had to pivot by learning how to effectively deliver content and essentially communicate. This happened to include everything from conducting everyday administrative tasks to educational webinars and membership/board of director meetings.

Who said a strong leader of an organization had to handle everything on their own? Strong leaders understand and know they need a tribe to move their organization forward!

A strong leader takes a step back and does the following:

1. Asks the Board of Directors for assistance tackling an issue.

2. Evolves into a decisive leader.

3. Calculates the amount of risk in their decisions.

4. Focuses on growth, not just target numbers.

5. Builds and inspires culture and value for the organization.

Our next inspiring African American woman is an American activist, community organizer, and executive, Tarana Burke. She was born on September 12, 1973. Tarana encountered numerous young women of color that were survivors of sexual violence and abuse. As a survivor of sexual abuse, she identified with these young women and her efforts shifted towards supporting them. She began to find ways to provide resources, support, and safe spaces for young women of color to share their stories. Hence the creation of the ‘me too’ Movement! Tarana led campaigns and launched initiatives around issues like housing inequality, racial discrimination, and economic injustice. Fueled by her passion for activism, she decided to attend Alabama State University, a Historically Black University (HBCU) to further develop her organizing skills and has been widely recognized for her work and was named Person of the Year by TIME Magazine in 2017.

Our next inspiring (and a personal favorite) African American woman is American actress and producer, Viola Davis. She was born on August 11, 1965. Having won an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards, she is the first African-American to achieve the "Triple Crown of Acting". Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2012 and 2017. Viola, with her husband Julius Tennon, created JuVee Productions, to help young filmmakers of all colors find a space in Hollywood. She is also incredibly involved with the Entertainment Industry Foundation, which helps eradicate hunger among kids in America, creating food programs and raising 15 million dollars in the last two and a half years.

Our next inspiring African American woman is an American television personality and retired professional boxer, Laila Ali. She was born on December 30, 1977. As the eighth daughter of the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali, you might think Laila Ali would be living under her father's shadow. Right? But in reality, Laila carved out her own legacy as a boxer by winning all 24 of her bouts before retiring undefeated in 2007. She is also a fitness & wellness advocate, TV host, home chef, founder of the Laila Ali Lifestyle Brand, and mother of two. In 2012 when women’s boxing was included in the Olympics, Laila was the first woman in history to provide expert commentary for NBC Sports. Talk about “float like a butterfly sting like a bee”!

Our next inspiring African American woman is an American reporter, April Ryan. She was born on September 5, 1967. April is a speaker, one of the longest-serving members of the White House Correspondents, D.C. Bureau Chief for The Grio, and the author of “The Presidency in Black and White” and her newest “At Mama’s Knee”. In 2017, she joined CNN as a political analyst and has won the “Shorty Award for Best Journalist”.
