Okay, friends, I don't typically do this, but if everyone who reads this chips in even a small amount we can make this happen.
One of my students this year is working hard to go on my East Coast Trip, and her (honorary) aunt has set up a GoFundMe account on her behalf. Since I have quite a bit of reach with my FB account, I decided I would link it here.
Makaylie is, without a doubt, one of the greatest kids I've ever taught, and that's saying a lot considering the awesome humans who have come through my room in the past 27 years. Still, there's something extra special about this kid. Smart, funny, brave, sassy, caring, kind, and a natural leader who looks every challenge square in the eye and says "you're going down."
Many of you reading are friends of mine because your own child went on this amazing trip, or you're one of my hundreds of travelers who are now adults. You all know what this experience does for kids.
Without going into too much personal detail, this kid is in the process of changing the direction of previous generations (with some incredible parenting by her single mom, who is without a doubt a hero to everyone on our staff who has been blessed to teach her kid). This is precisely the kind of kid who would benefit the most from this experience, and serve as a launching pad for the rest of her life.
Please consider donating what you can to her GoFundMe. I'm going to be making it a point to repost this daily, so I beg your forgiveness in advance. Thanks and love to all.

Hi, I'm Heather, Makaylie is my honorary niece. She is the most mature, caring, selfless… Heather Rhinehart needs your support for Kaylies east coast miracle

Students do *not* need to attend Washougal Schools to participate - the trip is open to homeschoolers, those who attend private schools, or public schools in other districts. Please note that this trip is not sponsored by the Washougal School District. Please share far and wide with anyone you know who might be interested!

Spread the word! We're holding a parent info meeting for parents of current 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders for the '22, '23, and '24 East Coast Tours of Discovery! The meeting will be this Tuesday, May 18th from 6:00-7:00PM in room 236 at Jemtegaard. We're will be talking about the trip as well as fundraising opportunities.
Current 8th grade families are invited because I know many families were concerned about sending their kids on the trip this year. Because of this, we're opening the trip up to freshmen next year.
The trip is open to any 8th or 9th graders regardless of where they attend school, so if you have a niece or nephew or another relative at a different school, they can come, too!

Please note that this trip is not sponsored by the Washougal School District. Also, if you cannot attend in person, please log in through the Zoom link below. See you Tuesday!

Scott Rainey is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
