Families of East Coast Trip alums - if you've got a few minutes, would you do me a favor? ETS, the amazing company who has been organizing our trips for over 20 years now, needs your help on the review sites. It seems a while back a few disgruntled families posted some negative reviews on Yelp (which seem to be almost exclusively about issues related to Covid cancellations), and it's dragged their rating down. As I'm sure you know, ETS is a local company started by a retired middle school teacher, and is now run by his daughters, so it's a small family business. I'm a huge believer in supporting businesses I believe in, and there are few I believe in more than Educational Travel Services, Inc., as evidenced by the fact that I've trusted them with hundreds of students over the past two decades. I'm posting a link to my own Yelp review - if you can take a moment and share one yourself, it would be really awesome.

Local Vancouver/Washougal folks! Here's a great and fun way to support underprivileged kids for the East Coast Trip. The Milwaukie, Oregon Elks Lodge is sponsoring a Murder Mystery Party on Saturday, October 19th. The cost is only $40 a person, and part of the proceeds are benefiting East County Student Travel! Come on out and support a great cause, and have fun doing so!

Okay, friends, I don't typically do this, but if everyone who reads this chips in even a small amount we can make this happen.
One of my students this year is working hard to go on my East Coast Trip, and her (honorary) aunt has set up a GoFundMe account on her behalf. Since I have quite a bit of reach with my FB account, I decided I would link it here.
Makaylie is, without a doubt, one of the greatest kids I've ever taught, and that's saying a lot considering the awesome humans who have come through my room in the past 27 years. Still, there's something extra special about this kid. Smart, funny, brave, sassy, caring, kind, and a natural leader who looks every challenge square in the eye and says "you're going down."
Many of you reading are friends of mine because your own child went on this amazing trip, or you're one of my hundreds of travelers who are now adults. You all know what this experience does for kids.
Without going into too much personal detail, this kid is in the process of changing the direction of previous generations (with some incredible parenting by her single mom, who is without a doubt a hero to everyone on our staff who has been blessed to teach her kid). This is precisely the kind of kid who would benefit the most from this experience, and serve as a launching pad for the rest of her life.
Please consider donating what you can to her GoFundMe. I'm going to be making it a point to repost this daily, so I beg your forgiveness in advance. Thanks and love to all.

Hi, I'm Heather, Makaylie is my honorary niece. She is the most mature, caring, selfless… Heather Rhinehart needs your support for Kaylies east coast miracle
