Kharkov Bearing Plant", jsc is one of the biggest producers of bearing products in CIS and it is the single enterprise in Ukraine that produces bearings for railway transport. Construction of Ukrainian first bearing enterprise (in Soviet time, it was the eighth state bearing plant) began in 1945, in period of post war recovery of national economy. Launch of the first plant stage took place on the

first November, 1947. In 1994, “Kharkov Bearing Plant”, Joint Stock Company was created on the basis of the enterprise. Since January, 2000, HARP belongs to the industrial group UPEC. The plant occupies territory in 112, 53 acres, about 4 thousand people work at the enterprise. Specialization

HAPR , jsc specializes in production of ball bearings that have general industrial application, and roller bearings for railway transport. Since 2007, traditional plant areas were added by another one – production of semi-finished products and components. It is the leader in CIS in the sphere of bearing production for agricultural engineering enterprises and it is one of the main suppliers for the enterprises of transport engineering and railway sector. Product of the enterprise is also used in automotive, minerals and electro technical industries, and mining-metallurgical complex. Plant product uses the trade mark HAPR and is represented by more than 500 types of bearings, diameter of which is from 30 to 400 mm. The established production capacity is about 30 mln bearings a year. Main directions of plant development is mastering of new types of radial bearings with short cylindrical rollers, strengthening of own positions as the producer of bearings for railway equipment, mastering of ball bearings of higher accuracy class, production of forged and turned semi-finished products of automotive, railway, and industrial bearings. Production facilities

Facilities of the enterprise consist of the main production, ball and roller bearing manufacturing, and also auxiliary productions (department of mechanical-energetic service, area of industrial electronics, maintenance shop, stamping tool production, and complex of specialized laboratories). Billets for production of ball bearing rings are produced from bar-tube billets at turning automatic machines, semiautomatic machines, and production machine tools in automatic turning shop. After heat treatment procedure, ring billets are subjected to grinding treatment at high-precision equipment provided with ongoing inspection devices and dressing diamond tool. Components for ball bearings – balls, separators, washers, and sealing – are produced in ball, separator shops, and OEM component shop. HAPR possesses the full technological cycle of production of roller bearings used for railway transport purposes. Billets for their manufacturing are produced at seven automatic lines in Forged-and-Press Shop. After annealing, billets receive turning treatment at automatic lines. After quenching, bearing rings are passed to automatic lines for grinding. Rollers are produced from bars at turning automatic machines. After heat treatment, they get grinding and finishing procedures at the special equipment. Separators of roller bearings are produced by means of casting from brass, and then they have mechanical treatment. Separators from polyamide are cast at thermoplastic automatic machines. Production of semi-finished products and components is equipped with special automatic forging lines. After annealing at new aggregate, billet is subjected to further mechanical treatment at high precision turning CNC machines. The part of ring billets will be subjected to cold rolling-off at the special rolling machines. The enterprise pays a lot of attention to the issues of observing accuracy parameters of bearings and details to them. For this purpose, in particular, the devices of ongoing inspection are applied; it guarantees the necessary high quality in automatic work cycle. The enterprise is also equipped with the devices for control over the parameters of bearings and bearing details, automatic machines for sorting out, and flaw detectors for detection of surface defects. Since 2000, quality management system that corresponds to the requirements of international standards ISO-9000 has been working at the enterprise. Product, subjected to the compulsory certification, is certified in the certification system UkrSEPRO (Ukrainian system of standards) and certification system GOST (Russian Federation), and bearings for box rolling stock of railways are certified in the System of certification at federal railway transport (SS FZHT) of Ministry of Railways in Russian Federation. Bearings, trademark HAPR , are used in the products of more than hundred companies in the countries of CIS, Baltic States, Europe, South America, Africa, and South-Eastern Asia. At the present time, HAPR is going through the procedure of obtaining status of approved supplier of semi-finished products and components that is carried out by a number of world producers of bearing product. HAPR is the top twenty of the best machine tool enterprises according to the rating “Top-100 of the best companies of Ukraine”, the compilers of which the financial-economic weekly “Investgazeta” and daily economic newspaper “Delo” are. HARP is also present in the list of the most innovative machine tool companies of Ukraine according to the results of all Ukrainian rating “Guard of innovators 2007” (compiler – the economic weekly “Galitskie Kontrakty”). Investment projects

The industrial group UPEC invests actively into development of industrial potential of HAPR . Nowadays, a number of investment projects are being realized at the plant. The biggest of them, “Modernization of the enterprise for the purpose of creating production of improved quality bearings”, is estimated at about 27 mln dollars and is being realized for the purpose of launching new technology of billet production for bearing rings at the plant. The first stage of created in the project frameworks production was launched in January, 2008. Another big investment project is aimed at creation of the 6th class carriage bearings and new types of bearings for traction engine production. The general value of the project, in frameworks of which wide-ranging modernization of production capacities and modern grinding equipment outfit is being carried out, is estimated at about 8 mln dollars. The project will have being realized by the end of 2008 and it will allow the enterprise to occupy the leading positions in the segment of the market of bearings for railway transport in CIS. The investment project, as for creation of producing industrial group cylindrical roller bearing rings (diameter up to 400 mm) that are used in heavy engineering industry, is also being realized at HARP, jsc. The general project value that is planned to finish in 2008 is about 1 mln dollars. The customers of the product are the leading world producers of bearings.
