Rugged roots, grit and crispy stones line the trail through Smuggler Cove Marine Park.
The park offers exciting twists and turns including an opening in the canopy that offers a charming view of the Pacific Ocean from the ridge of the land and a display of rare trees that are native to British Columbia.
We're avid nature photographers with one camera between two, so one of us often lags behind during our big hikes.

This rocky road trip was our first ever Forest Service Road experience.
For those unfamiliar with Canadian roads, major highways generally connect the cities and towns, and there aren't really that many (compared to European countries).
There is also a huge network of Forest Service Roads, also known as 'Logging Roads' and they're branched out everywhere!
They rarely show up on maps as they're not maintained and it is discouraged to attempt them without off-road tires.
Of course, that's exactly what we did here and we were very lucky to have not burst a tire!
The benefits of traveling these roads is the fact that they always lead to the remote wilderness and the experience is an adventure to remember!

Happiness can be found in everything when you're a full time #vanlifer and on this night, we were so grateful for our first ever electric hook-up!
When the autumn months hit Canada and sunlight faded into hibernation, our solar power wouldn't charge a laptop even half way. We relied on cafes and the local libraries to boost our devices.
We were more bothered by not being able to use our gorgeous fairy lights so we sure did charge everything up on this night and show off our grand light exhibit with the Pacific Ocean as our only audience.

On this night, Nicola cooked up a mean spaghetti bolognese right beside Willingdon beach on the peaceful Sunshine Coast, right in the height of fall.
We arrived late after driving from Davis Bay and we spent time exploring everything the route had to offer in between.
We spent around 9 months living like this, in this van with no electricity (just a little solar), no internet, no running water and our heat source was always camp fires and the wood burner inside our van. It was the dream.
The Sunshine coast is a breathtaking road trip route, leaving from mainland Canada via ferry and traveling as far west as you can go in the country.

Now this was a lovely little campground that was recommended to us on our arrival at Powell River, a scenic stop on the Sunshine Coast route in British Columbia.
The campground licked the sands of the Pacific Ocean and the sweet smell of cedar bark lingered in the air.
We arrived at dusk which was the perfect time for a western sunset, a warm meal and a toasty campfire.

Instead we got to enjoy this silky phenomenon of the curling ocean, the calmest part of the Pacific. Look at the geometric wonder of the waves, this was a truly beautiful spot to reflect on how far we had traveled in our van to enjoy the greatest show on earth, our mother Gaia and all she has created.
