The first day of our largest battle of WWII in Europe, the largest battle in the history of the U.S. Army, precisely 80 years ago, when the 14th Cavalry Group took it in the teeth in the Losheim Gap holding off far superior German armored forces, taking the life of Tech 5 John Davidson, 23, of Mahoning Valley, Ohio. The bravery of these men holding that frozen ground is unimaginable.

Sgt. John Davidson's comrade, Technician 5th Grade Charles Earhart, age 33, of Pittsburgh, 14th Cavalry Group, KIA second day of the Battle of the Budge defending Losheim Gap against an overwhelming German armored assault.

16/12/2023

14th Cavalry Group, a regiment-sized unit, held the Losheim Gap in Belgium against elements of four SS panzer divisions to announce the advent of the Battle of the Bulge. One such armored trooper was John Davidson, KIA on the first day of the largest battle in the history of the US Army.
