We spent the evening watching a herd of 50+ buffalo come and join this young elephant bull for a drink. The elephant wasn't too friendly, so the buffalo ended up goin to the other side of the waterhole.

Nyala bulls have an impressive ability to puff themselves up and raise the mane along their backs when males size each other up before a fight. Its always an awesome sight to see whilst out in the bush.

How's this for an interesting sighting! We stumbled on this Boulengers garter snake eating a night adder! Garter snakes feed on a wide range of reptiles that also include other snakes. They typically live underground and are seldom seen, making this sighting all the more special.

Here's a few photos highlighting the beautiful diversity of wildflowers that pop up over the rainy season. A lot of these flowers only last a few days and once harvested wilt very quickly, so its always best to see them growing in their natural habitat.

We are extremely excited to be working with African Wildlife Conservation Fund to redo our western fenceline! Over the past few years we have been losing a few kilometers of barbed wire fencing a month through theft by a few bad apples in the neighboring villages. It is a continuous effort to replace missing sections and maintain the fencline to a high standard.
A huge thanks must go to African Wildlife Conservation Fund for funding this new wire mesh fencing that will hopefully reduce the amount of fence that is cut and stolen and stop animals from getting out and harassing the local villages, and stop barbed wire being used for snares.

being in a very drought prone area, one of the most welcome sights for us is the waist-high or taller grass that is covering nearly the entire property this season.

The amount of grass we get each year can vary wildly with both the amount of rain we receive and the way in which we receive it. This year, although we didn't get a lot of rain, we had a lot of gentle rain during peak growth periods for grass. this is really important for us as we are able to supplement water to our troughs easily, but it is incredibly difficult to supplement grass.

The type of grass also matters hugely in the success of the wildlife. some grasses are very unpalatable and hold very little nutrients. With the short growth season this year however, a lot of these unpalatable species which require longer growth periods haven't fully developed.

All of this means that if we head into a drought this year (which is looking likely) we should be able to weather it better.

If you've visited us then you've been up the sunset rock, and you may have noticed some 'dead' grass in the dried out puddles. This grass is actually just in a dormant state and within a few days of rain it livens up and within a week starts to flower! Next timey you're sitting on the rock for a sunset, be sure to keep an eye out for this amazing plant.
