Magai Arboriculture Serving the needs of tree lovers, their neighbors and governments by providing a preventative, holistic approach to tree care.

Helping Trees Live with People since 1991
Serving the needs of unabashed tree lovers, their neighbors and governments by providing a preventative, holistic approach to tree care, Magai Arboriculture, located in Troy, New York, was started in 1991 in Seattle by Jack Magai. He has been certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) since 1997. We specialize in assessing the structural

integrity of large, old trees, and have extensive experience designing and installing dynamic cabling systems. The majority of our customers are homeowners. We occasionally perform formal risk assessments, oversee tree-sensitive construction sites and deliver expert opinions for municipalities, businesses and educational institutions. In large tree care companies a complicated chain of command often results in mistakes and cookie-cutter solutions. Because we are a very small company of unusually articulate and educated employees all working directly for the arborist-owner, we are able to safeguard the trees we work on while providing intelligent solutions to their unique problems.

Learn and practice several different ways of making grafts, then have fun adding varieties of apples to one of our trees. If you know of a tree with apples you like, bring a live scion (thin branch) from it and we'll add it to ours! Workshop will be led by Rick Lyyn, fruit grower and winemaker at S…

...bracing and supporting a broken dogwood in the woods of troy/brunswick; 1/2" bolts x 2 and an a-frame support constructed from white cedar posts. Yes... such a breakage wound will still rot inside over time but better than cutting it down in the opinion of these arborists and homeowners!

this is NOT our work! Repeat... not the work of Magai Arboriculture It is, however, a great example of really BAD tree work that is all too common. This is on Federal Street near 6th Avenue in Troy. The cuts appear to have been made in the past couple days. This kind of pruning will lead to a lot of branch die-back and/or sprouting that will generate poorly connected branches that ultimately will require more maintenance in less time than a proper pruning would, and will create more traffic hazards in terms of dead wood (these cuts overhang Federal Street). Its ugly, it creates risk, and it's unhealthy and careless for the tree.

1. we made it to 100 likes!
2. Tristen and Andrew - after much studying two climbers with Magai Arboriculture took our ISA (http://www.isa-arbor.com/) exams today. We wont technically know the results for a few weeks, but we are pretty sure we passed! Three certified arborists on a crew - its kind of a big deal folks. thanks Jack for all the support and encouragement. Let's climb some trees.
