An Absolutely Incredible Price Comparison

Here’s a practice I’ve shared here many times before and one I picked up from my grandmother - the practice of taking a piece of straw from the crib at Christmas and keeping it for the year.

People take or are given a piece of straw for different reasons I find. Most put a piece in their purse or phone case (beside the bank cards) so that they’ll have money for the year. While more in their prayer books for health, more in the cow house to protect the animals while more under their mattress to keep illness away while more in their cars. No right or wrong, just difference.

As I said grew up with it via my grandmother and I do it now. I notice when I’d be doing talks in day care centres and the like and when I’d ask older women if they still do it, they’d usually open the handbag and pull out a bale of the stuff!

It’s been on the go for years but I notice it’s getting more popular in recent times. You’ll always see a rush for it by the 6th of January before the crib is put away and you’ll always see loose bits around the crib from people rummaging over Christmas. I notice these days that some people only take a piece of straw that has a ‘knot’ on it from where it grows - apparently that’s the most sought after piece.

Anyway, whatever you have I’m sure it works for you and sure, it’s a light load to carry.

The bridge in Ireland that was unable to be used for four years due to a lost remote control is the Seán O'Casey Bridge in Dublin, which is a pedestrian swing bridge designed to open for ships passing through the River Liffey; the remote control was misplaced preventing the bridge from being operated properly for several years.

There are still a few slots available for my 2025 tours of Ireland and Nothern Ireland. Both start and end in Dublin. The spring tour (April 26 to May 7) goes north to Belfast and along the Antrim coastline to Derry, then Donegal, and down through Sligo, Mayo, Galway, and Clare. The summer tour (June 21 to July 3) goes west to Galway, then south through Clare, Limerick, Kerry, and Cork, then up through Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wicklow. Tours re filling up fast and hotels are requiring commitments so contact me for more info if you may be interested! www.eiregotours.com. ([email protected])

I'd love to be in Galway for Halloween.
