EDIT: We added a new group member within an hour! Still room for one or two more.

One of my guests just had to withdraw, and now this trip is below the minimum again. :( I REALLY don't want to cancel — I have an amazing group collected for this trip, and we're so looking forward to it!

Please, if you know someone who might be interested and would make a great travel group member, share this link with them!

We'll scramble over Incan ruins, make offerings in a traditional ceremony, explore the historic city of Cusco, meet women weavers, and spend a day in the clouds at Machu Picchu!

This is HUGE -- a new era of consumer rights in air travel.

Automatic means no one has to apply or fill out forms to get these refunds — strong motivation for the airlines to stop jerking us around.

This includes partial refunds for delays, added connections, even nonworking wifi.

It may also mean higher prices for air travel though.

The new rule standardizes what constitutes a significant delay, and forces airlines to provide automatic refunds to customers.

Where would you like to go in summer/fall 2025? These are the options I'm considering:

Cambodia/Thailand: Ancient temples, daily life, floating market, market visit, cooking class

Florence Italy: The David, winery visit, hiking in the Cinque Terre villages, market visit, cooking class

Costa Rica: Cloud forest, beach town, volcano, wildlife viewing, nature hikes

Cartagena Colombia: Carriage rides, island beach visit, cooking class, pirate museum, strolls on the seawall

Malaysia: Explore the mix of Malay, Indian, and Chinese cultures with temple visits, food tours, cooking classes, etc.

Athens, Greece: Greek ruins, temples, food tour, visit the Islands.

Also, let me know what month is best for you. My options are July, August, September, October or November.

In the past, I have recommended Capitalone checking and credit cards for travelers.

They advertise their cards as being great for travel, because they don't charge foreign exchange fees.

However, I can no longer recommend them. Even though they advertise the card for travel, using the card for overseas expenses leads to blockage for fraud as often as not.

I have to pay by the minute for lengthy calls back to the US, which can only be made during daytime hours there (which is the middle of the night in other places.) this expenses on top of the $150 per year fees.

About one out of every three transactions I attempt gets declined, which is very embarrassing.

This is especially a problem with my Spark business card. This card is worse than useless for a tribal business.

I will research alternatives when I get home from this trip.

At Capital One, we’re on a mission to change banking for good by offering great products, services, a

I read a post recently about "saving money on travel" that suggested looking for deals on upgrades at the last minute.

The writer said "On my last flight, the upgrade was priced at $3000 but on the day of the flight was only $700 -- so worth it."

Uhhhhmm. That is insane.

I rarely spend more than $700 on my ENTIRE flight unless I'm going halfway around the world. (then I might spend $900-1200).

I mean, if you've got the money, and you really want to spend it on a few hours of comfort/luxury/status while you are probably ASLEEP, then go for it. But that's a big nope from me.

I just enjoyed a fabulous 2-day jaunt to New York City. I was feeling self-indulgent, So I used Uber and Lyft to get back and forth to the airports at both ends of the trip.

Looking over the numbers, that cost me as much as my airfare 😮

Which is fine, sometimes you're willing to pay for comfort and convenience. But it is a reminder that taking a little extra time to figure out public transportation can save you enough to pay for half your next trip!

Next time, I'll at least take the free shuttle bus into the city from the airport. I'd rather spend that money on food or a Broadway show!
