Check out this once in a crescent moon shot of the Needles from our friends at Ainsley Bennett Photography.

Moonshine over the Needles.
On this day exactly a year ago I took this image of the Crescent Moon setting over the Needles. When I originally posted this on Facebook it ended up going viral with nearly 73,000 likes, 4000 comments with a total reach of over 2 million people. It's one of those images which I'm very unlikely to replicate again as everything just seemed to fall into place for me.
I'm so glad the lone yacht was moored in Alum Bay as this added some well needed scale to the photo which I believe plays an important part. The owner of the yacht saw this image and made contact with me and is now a proud owner of a print and the image also sits on his digital photo frame aboard his yacht. After a 7am start this morning to photograph the sunrise, it didn't take me long to realise the east of the island had the least amount of snow. Luckily I was listening to the Isle of Wight Radio reporting the heavy snowfall on the west part of the island. The Pepperpot originally didn't look very promising due to the heavy fog on St Catherine's Down, but I thought I would take the hike up there anyway... and I don't regret it a single bit! The very first photo I took caught the fog rolling in covering the right side of the sky, while the left side of the Pepperpot remained in blue sky with wispy clouds, moments later any reminiscence of blue were gone. Snowfall had blanketed the ground overnight, and heavy winds from the west painted the front of the oratory white, creating this unspoilt surreal event!
