Over the past year, Blue Rhino Design worked with members the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) to create a digital version of the RCEME Book of Remembrance. This week we put on the finishing touch on the project at the RCEME Museum in Kingston.

Beginning in the early 1990s, active duty and retired members of RCEME traveled worldwide to the gravesites of RCEME soldiers who lost their lives in the service of Canada. At each of these visits, a photo was taken to commemorate the visiting soldier paying their respects. These photos were collected in a four-volume paper-based version Book of Remembrance. In 2016, a project was undertaken to digitize the Book of Remembrance. The kiosk that we just completed is the culmination of years of effort.

It was both a privilege and pleasure to work with the RCEME members on this project. Attached to this post are two photos from the opening ceremony in October 2022 and a photo taken this week where we've completed the project with a graphic panel behind the kiosk.

In May 2022, Blue Rhino Design embarked on one of our most ambitious and meaningful projects: the redesign of the "Canada and the Cold War" gallery at the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum. We were also tasked with designing an entirely new gallery giving voice to the Inuit who were deeply impacted by the construction of the DEW Line. The Cold War gallery also explores how Inuit were used as pawns when they were forcibly relocated to inhospitable places where they were expected to act as "human flag poles" asserting Canada's sovereignty in the far north.

This exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Government of Nunavut who graciously allowed us to work with Deborah Kigjugalik Webster, their Curator of Heritage Collections. Deborah's expertise was essential to developing the Inuit stories that we told through exhibits. Our thanks to the fabricators from the Ontario Science Centre who skillfully realized our designs while working under extreme time pressure.

This past Thursday our collective efforts came to fruition with the official opening of the two new galleries.
