Battlefield Tours for Canadians by a Canadian
From Flin Flon to France: The Story of Realizing a Dream
In 2014 I left behind the beautiful Canadian Rockies and moved to Arras, France for my dream job as a student guide at the Canadian National Vimy and Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorials with Veteran's Affairs Canada. The dream job turned out to be one of the most personally fulfilling jobs I have ever had in my long career in tourism, and I simply could not imagine returning to my former life in Canada. Hence Living Memory Tours was born.
Growing up in Creighton, SK / Flin Flon, MB, I dreamed of living in France after my first visit to Paris as a young girl in 1982. The road to my dream was a long and winding one which began by heading west to Alberta after graduating high school in 1990. After a short career in hairstyling in Edmonton and a return to university in Camrose to study French and History, I found myself in Banff where I spent nearly two decades in hospitality and tourism. Another return to university studies in Business, Sales & Marketing at the age of 40 allowed me the opportunity to become a student guide with Veterans Affairs Canada in France, working three four-month contracts in 2014 - 2015. Not only was I able to apply my education and skills gained in my long career in hospitality and tourism, I fell in love with the city of Arras and the history of the Great War. Here I am surrounded by a very significant era of Canada's history and am able to keep alive the memory of the brave men and women who served in the one of the world's greatest conflicts. I also get to share my fluency in French culture with visitors to make your trip one that you will remember forever.
Living Memory Tours specializes in the history and battles of the Canadian Corps and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, but you don't have to be Canadian to take part in a tour. As part of the BEF, Canada & Newfoundland fought under British command and alongside troops of all Commonwealth nations. We share a common history that binds us still to the present day and I look forward to sharing it with you.
