Today is the second Tori no Ichi festival. I went to the Yokohama Bashi Market to check it out!

Tori no Ichi is a festival to express gratitude for the past year’s safety and pray for good fortune in the coming year. The must-do tradition at this festival is buying a kumade.

Purchasing a kumade at Tori no Ichi is a popular way to wish for prosperity and happiness in the new year. Traditionally, the kumade is believed to “rake in” good fortune and wealth.

When you buy a kumade, the shopkeepers and surrounding people celebrate by performing a rhythmic cheer called tejime. It’s a unique and lively part of the festival experience!

今日は二の酉。横浜橋商店街の酉の市に行ってきました！

酉の市は、今年1年の無事に感謝し、来年の幸運を祈願するお祭りです。そして、酉の市で欠かせないのが熊手を買うこと。

酉の市で熊手を買って、新年の幸福や商売繁盛を願うのが定番の楽しみ方です。熊手は「運をかき込む」「金銀をかき集める」道具として、縁起物とされています。

熊手を購入すると、お店の人たちが福を願い、周囲の人たちも一緒に三三七拍子の手締めを行います。これが酉の市の名物なんです！

Tonight’s stay is at Chikura Onsen, a charming inn in a small seaside fishing village in Minami Boso. This historic spot has long been loved by writers and cultural figures. We’re staying in the same room where legends like Seicho Matsumoto and Haruki Murakami used to stay. Nestled by a riverside near the coast, the room has a calming charm and sense of history. The new building’s rooftop also has an open-air bath with a scenic view. In the morning, the garden was sprinkled with water, a small gesture that reflects their hospitality.

今日の宿は南房総の海辺の小さな漁師町にある千倉温泉。古くから文豪や文化人に愛された歴史ある旅館です。私たちが泊まっているのは、松本清張や村上春樹さんが定宿としていた部屋。川沿いで、趣のある落ち着く部屋でした。新館の屋上には眺めのいい露天風呂もあります。朝には庭に打ち水がされていて、おもてなしの心を感じました。 #千倉温泉 #南房総 #海辺の宿 #日本のおもてなし #文豪の定宿 #歴史ある宿 #温泉 #日本旅行

I suddenly felt like taking a ferry, so here I am, off on a new journey! 🚢 Just a short ride from Kurihama on the Miura Peninsula to Kanaya on the Boso Peninsula, but it’s so exciting. The sea breeze feels amazing!

ふとフェリーに乗りたくなって、この旅を始めました！🚢 三浦半島の久里浜から房総半島の金谷まで、短い時間だけどワクワクが止まらない。海風がとても心地いいですね！

I visited Nidaime Kiyoji, a hidden soba restaurant in Atami Taga. Nestled quietly on a mountaintop, it took a lot of effort to find, but it was worth every step! The only dish available is the Soba Zanmai (¥1,100), a tasting menu that includes a variety of soba: lightly salted soba with a hint of lemon, roasted seaweed soba, refreshing cold soba with kabosu slices, and warm duck dipping soba. As a soba lover, I was in heaven! With only 6 counter seats, reservations are a must.

熱海多賀の隠れ家的な十割そばのお店「二代目喜代次」に行ってきました。山の上にひっそりと佇むお店で、迷いながらもやっと辿り着きましたが、行く価値ありでした！メニューはそば三昧（1,100円）のみで、ほんのりレモン味の塩そば、香ばしい海苔そば、カボスのスライスが爽やかな冷たい汁そば、温かい鴨つけそばと、色々なそばを少しずつ楽しめます。そば好きの私にはたまらないお店でした。カウンター6席のみなので、予約が必須です。 #熱海グルメ #そば三昧 #隠れ家そば #日本食好き #そば天国 #秘境グルメ

Exploring the mountainous region where Tottori, Okayama, and Hiroshima prefectures meet in the San’in area. The autumn leaves haven’t quite turned yet, but the traditional Japanese landscapes were breathtaking. It was a peaceful escape, immersed in the beauty of Japan’s timeless countryside.


山陰地方の山間部、鳥取県、岡山県、広島県の県境を探索してきました。紅葉はまだでしたが、日本らしい美しい風景が広がっていました。日本の原風景に癒される、穏やかな時間を過ごせました。

Tonight’s stay is at a lovely Japanese inn in Dogashima,West Izu, with a beautiful ocean view right outside. The hot spring has this amazing silky texture, and dinner is a feast of seafood like lobster and turban shells. Of course, I enjoyed it all slowly in my room with some sake. In the evening, fireworks lit up the night sky, giving me a sense of summer coming to a close.

今日は西伊豆の堂ヶ島にある素敵な日本旅館に宿泊。目の前には美しい海の景色が広がっています。温泉はトロッとしたお湯で、夕食は伊勢海老やサザエなど、海の幸がいっぱい。もちろん日本酒と共に、ゆっくりお部屋で楽しみました。夜には花火が打ち上げられ、夏の終わりを感じました。

Today’s lunch was soba noodles in Tanna. The soba here is special, with a focus on soil preparation, homegrown buckwheat, homemade flour, and handmade noodles, all ground using a traditional stone mill. The aroma was incredible, and I enjoyed it with just salt and wasabi. Now, I'm off to a hot spring in West Izu!

今日のランチは丹那でお蕎麦をいただきました。こちらのお蕎麦は、土作りからこだわり、自家栽培・自家製粉・自家製麺で、石臼で挽いた二八蕎麦。香りが良く、塩とわさびで食べました。これから、西伊豆の温泉に行ってきます！

Just visited *Hime no Yu*, a local hidden gem in Hakone!
This quaint, community-run onsen was discovered by local volunteers and offers a unique bathing experience. The water is thick and silky, flowing directly from the source—it's incredibly hot! Today, the temperature was adjusted to 44°C (111°F), but it used to be even hotter. First-timers are often surprised by the intensity!
The facility is simple, featuring just one beautiful circular marble tub. Locals, especially the elderly, come here to relax and soak. After a few dips, you'll feel the warmth reach deep into your core. If you're ever in Hakone and want a truly authentic onsen experience, I highly recommend this spot!

地元の隠れた名湯、姫の湯に行ってきました！
この温泉は、地元の有志たちが掘り当てた共同浴場で、トロッとしたお湯が特徴です。源泉掛け流しの温泉で、とにかく熱い！今日は調整されて44℃でしたが、昔はもっと熱くて、初めての人は驚くこと間違いなし！
施設はシンプルで、大理石の円形浴槽が一つだけ。地元のおじいちゃん、おばあちゃんたちが、ゆっくりと浸かっています。何度も出たり入ったりしていると、体の芯までポカポカに温まります。箱根で本当にいいお湯を楽しみたいなら、ここが一押しです！

Had an amazing day visiting the Keith Haring Museum in Kobuchizawa, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Keith Haring was an American street artist who was active in the 1980s. His works often reflect social issues, especially LGBTQ+ rights and AIDS awareness. I was completely immersed in his world, created with simple lines, vibrant colors, and a childlike innocence.



今日は、山梨県北杜市小淵沢にある1980年代に活躍したアメリカのストリートアーティスト、キース・ヘリングの美術館に行ってきました。彼の作品には社会問題、特にLGBTQ+の権利やエイズ啓発が反映されていて、シンプルなラインやポップな色使い、子供のような無垢さが感じられる世界にどっぷり浸ってきました。

After watching the movie starring Kenji Sawada, which was based on the essay “The Zen Diary “ by the writer TsutomuMizukami , I felt compelled to visit the abandoned village of Suge in Hakuba. From the Nohira settlement, I nervously made my way along a rugged path that was hardly a road, and finally, I arrived. The village had become a desolate, overgrown place, quite different from the scenery I had seen in the film. However, the remnants of the past were still visible, and I was glad I made the effort to visit.

作家である水上勉が自身の経験を基に描いた料理エッセイ「土を喰う日々　わが精進十二カ月」を原案とし、沢田研二主演の映画を見た後、白馬にある廃村「菅（すげ）」に行ってみたいと思い、実際に行ってみました。野平集落から、道とは言えないような過酷な道をおっかなびっくり進み、やっと辿り着きました。映画で見た風景はすっかり荒れ果てた廃村になっていましたが、過去の面影が残っており、大変な思いをして行ってよかったと思いました。

Tonight’s stay is at the ‘Slanted House’ in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture! This was the final work of architect Yoji Watanabe, often called the ‘mad architect.’ We’re here as a thank-you gift for supporting its restoration through crowdfunding. What an experience!

今晩の宿は、新潟県上越市にある『斜めの家』！『狂気の建築家』と呼ばれた渡邊洋治さんの最後の設計作品です。再生を支援するクラウドファンディングのお礼として、ここに宿泊させていただいています。とても貴重な体験です！
