Made a trip to Kawazu for some delicious Kansai-style eel! Even before the restaurant opened at 11 AM, there was already a line. Unlike the Kanto style, this eel is grilled without steaming—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Absolutely delicious!

After the meal, I took a stroll along the river to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms. They weren’t in full bloom yet, but the pink petals against the blue sky were still a beautiful sight.

On the way back, I’m stopping by Yugawara for a relaxing dip in the hot springs!

美味しい関西風の鰻を食べに河津へ！開店前の11時なのに、すでに行列ができてました。関東風とは違って、蒸さずに焼くので、外はカリッと中はふんわり。めちゃくちゃ美味しかった！

食後は、川沿いを散歩しながら河津桜をチェック。今年はまだ満開じゃなかったけど、青空にピンクの花びらが映えてキレイだったなぁ。

帰りは湯河原で温泉に浸かってリフレッシュしてきます♨️

Back at the Tōno Dobekko Festival—one of my favorite winter traditions! This special event only happens this time of year, and I wouldn’t miss it. Sipping on doburoku at a historic Nanbu Magariya farmhouse, enjoying local food, feeling nostalgic with old folktales, and getting blown away by the powerful Kagura performances—what a night! The doburoku, brewed just for this festival by Tōno’s sake makers, was so good… of course, I had to get a refill! Before I knew it, the night was over, and we walked back through the snowy streets with lanterns in hand. Already looking forward to next year!

毎年楽しみにしてる「遠野どべっこまつり」、今年も来ました！冬のこの時期だけの特別なお祭りです。歴史ある南部曲り家で、どぶろく片手に郷土料理を楽しんで、語り部の昔話にほっこりし、そして神楽の迫力に圧倒されました。祭りのために仕込まれた特別などぶろくがまた最高で、もちろんおかわり！楽しい時間はあっという間、帰りは雪の中を提灯行列で帰りました。来年もまた来ます！

Today is the second Tori no Ichi festival. I went to the Yokohama Bashi Market to check it out!

Tori no Ichi is a festival to express gratitude for the past year’s safety and pray for good fortune in the coming year. The must-do tradition at this festival is buying a kumade.

Purchasing a kumade at Tori no Ichi is a popular way to wish for prosperity and happiness in the new year. Traditionally, the kumade is believed to “rake in” good fortune and wealth.

When you buy a kumade, the shopkeepers and surrounding people celebrate by performing a rhythmic cheer called tejime. It’s a unique and lively part of the festival experience!

今日は二の酉。横浜橋商店街の酉の市に行ってきました！

酉の市は、今年1年の無事に感謝し、来年の幸運を祈願するお祭りです。そして、酉の市で欠かせないのが熊手を買うこと。

酉の市で熊手を買って、新年の幸福や商売繁盛を願うのが定番の楽しみ方です。熊手は「運をかき込む」「金銀をかき集める」道具として、縁起物とされています。

熊手を購入すると、お店の人たちが福を願い、周囲の人たちも一緒に三三七拍子の手締めを行います。これが酉の市の名物なんです！

Tonight’s stay is at Chikura Onsen, a charming inn in a small seaside fishing village in Minami Boso. This historic spot has long been loved by writers and cultural figures. We’re staying in the same room where legends like Seicho Matsumoto and Haruki Murakami used to stay. Nestled by a riverside near the coast, the room has a calming charm and sense of history. The new building’s rooftop also has an open-air bath with a scenic view. In the morning, the garden was sprinkled with water, a small gesture that reflects their hospitality.

今日の宿は南房総の海辺の小さな漁師町にある千倉温泉。古くから文豪や文化人に愛された歴史ある旅館です。私たちが泊まっているのは、松本清張や村上春樹さんが定宿としていた部屋。川沿いで、趣のある落ち着く部屋でした。新館の屋上には眺めのいい露天風呂もあります。朝には庭に打ち水がされていて、おもてなしの心を感じました。 #千倉温泉 #南房総 #海辺の宿 #日本のおもてなし #文豪の定宿 #歴史ある宿 #温泉 #日本旅行
