Sassi di Matera (Stones of Matera)…the ancient cave dwelling in Basilicata, dated back to 7,000 years BC. The town splits into 2 parts – Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso. We started our walking journey from Sasso Barisano, passed the road parallel to the canyon (la gravina) on our left hand side, and reach Sasso Caveoso (around 1.5km)

Portovenere… the southern end of the peninsula in Liguria. Together with Cinque Terre, Portovenere is also one of the UNESCO sites. The name Portovenere was derived from Porto (=Port) + Venere (Goddess of Venus). It was believed that in 1st Century BC, there was a temple of Goddess Venus here on the hill at the end of peninsula, where is now the Church of St.Peter (San Pietro). The town used to be a land of pirates during medieval period.
