So I’ve just delivered my 🎤keynote speech at the #VisitFestival24 in wonderful Tampere, Finland 🇫🇮
Huge thanks to my friends at Visit Tampere and all their tourism stakeholders for welcoming me so warmly.🙏☺️
And what of Tampere —a city that beautifully blends industrial heritage with natural splendor in lower Lapland. Here’s what I’ve learned:
🌍 Industrial Roots: Known as the “Manchester of Finland,” Tampere’s historic red-brick factories along the Tammerkoski rapids are now trendy cultural hubs. Maybe we should refer to Manchester as the Tampere of England from now on…?
🔥 Sauna Capital: With over 50 public saunas, Tampere is officially the “Sauna Capital of the World” 🧖♂️. Business deals are done in the sauna and if you want to know what’s really going on, head for the heat…
📚 Moomin Museum: The world’s only Moomin Museum is here in Tampere celebrating Tove Jansson’s magical characters through original artwork and interactive exhibits. Look carefully and you’ll find a few mini statues dotted around…🦛
🌿 Natural Beauty: Nestled between Lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, Tampere boasts stunning winter views and the world’s tallest gravel ridge in the Pyynikki Nature Reserve 🌊🌲.
🍴 Culinary Delights: the food is phenomenal! I believe I need to try the local specialty, mustamakkara (black sausage), at the historic Tampere Market Hall for an authentic taste of Finland 😋.
Winter is low season here and it is so worth the trip! If you are going to do winter, come here and do it right!

You may think that an 8-hour train sounds like a long time, but I can assure you that if you're travelling through the beautiful countryside between Zürich and Vienna, it's not enough 😍
Making its way through 4 countries (Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany) and alongside the Alps, the first class coaches on the train are incredibly comfortable, allowing plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the amazing views.
