With the continuing rent hikes in university areas. Should student bodies and the USI partner with a developer to creat sovial student housing?

Brilliant news!

Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to give all students an update on the re-opening of the Maths Support Center to all Maynooth students. 😁😁

We also want to thanks all the students who came out protesting for the MSC, all the students who shared out the videos and also to the students/ staff who just supported us. 🤩🤩

This action really shows the power of the student voice. We consistently preach that our voice should be heard and this is a prime example.👏👏

Please see below link to new revised opening hours taking place from the 4th of November.

This page has decided to share some arguments for the no side on the upcoming debate on s*x trade taking none of the campaigners could make the town hall meeting. We would welcome yes campaigners to message us with arguments too.

-Firstly to be a pr******te in Ireland is not illegal
-the new model adopted in 2017 has been proven to reduce prostitution demand and lower human trafficking
-A prominent yes campainer has said they want full legalisation of all aspects of the prostitution industry. This would include pimping literally making the human body commercial property of capiliat overlords.
-the constitution of maynooth vows to protect against discrimination over political views while this referendum encourages such activity.
-finally time is a limited resource and our su had failed to address our current student problems such as housing and funding to an effective degree. Supporting this movement will take away from these movement reducing their chance of success.

A new report published today (13.11.18) examining legislative approaches to prostitution and human trafficking in six EU member states, including Ireland, has found criminalising the purchase of s*x, while decriminalising those in prostitution, is the best way to end demand and effectively tackle tr...

Less than 3 days for the entire student body to read this 88 page document and vote upon it. While from my personal reading so far I agree the changes I have read are necessary such as the ability to opt out of the union and a clearer process associated with executive members and discipline. 3 days is not enough time for the electorate to decide on this. This is therefore against any sensible democratic process and must be rejected and voted on after students have the time to evaluate it and decide upon the correct order of proceedings. With this referendum being held at the same time as 2 others it is clear that and informed vote cannot take place.

Asking students to approve a proposed constitution without proving access to it. The with limited funds we are asked yet again to support political movements. This as proven in the past does not bring power to any of the movement but instead creates great tension on campus and alienates opposition students.

Leon Diop is running for a position in the USI. With the congress fast approaching it may be time for him to address to the public issues that have gone unanswered for over 12 months. Firstly why have Senate meeting minutes from meetings where he was critiqued over 12 months ago kept from the student body and not shared on the su website like all previous notes? Why did he find it acceptable to describe one of the students in maynooth as not human while speaking as the su president on stage at the lit n deb societies biggest event of the year? How is a man who failed to properly run the repeal movement on our campus, failed to do his president duty of hosting a USI husting in 2018 fit to be VP for campaigns.

Ok so the voting for the SU roles is only days away, many candidates are talking to student activism and empowering the student body to protest. Well back in November 2017 before a student lead protest on seating the SU made this post. The only problem being by that in a meeting attended by me myself 2 members of that sabbatical had let us know of these proposals and why they were rejected. Yes rejected long before the post timed to dissuade attandace at a protest against the university cutting services. Current candidates, Michael Butler, Stephen McConnell, Julian Nagi and Ciaran Watts were in non paid executive roles that year and would have known of the dishonesty here yet still sat with there hands in their pockets as the student body was deceived.

10/03/2019

So with the upcoming elections in the students union. We want to know is there anything that needs to be hilighted as reasons to not vote for one of the nominated candidates? The su may be annoyed about this but screw it.

Post below is a qoute.

"Last March/April Maynooth Governing Authority deemed that serious allegations against Professor Nolan and Professor Mulkeen of bias, dishonesty and incompetence be investigated. A senior counsel was hired and met with relevant stakeholders - one meeting was as late as September. It is unknown if this investigation has been concluded. Documents covering these events exceed 40,000. Submissions have also been made to QQI, who are due to conduct a review of Maynooth this year. Since the initial complaint was made, students have been made aware of Maynooth University Primary Risk Register, which among other admissions, acknowledges that a ''Maynooth graduate is not widely respected''[page 36]"

26/02/2019

It has come to out attention that University President Nolan and vice President Mulkeen are under investigation over potential incompetence. We have two sources on the matter one of which states, "the allegations of bias, dishonesty and incompetence partly covers the Executive not investigating serious bullying, harassment and intimidation on-campus to the point that it was ignored and resulted in criminal investigations". Worrying times for the students of maynooth.

Maynooth university facilitates the presence of a convicted s*xual offender on our campus. Do u think this is a responsible move? Does the safety of other students come first? Just to be clear this is a child s*xual offender.

Student travel fairs have gone up. I'd say the student's union will notice when they are finished sorting out complex border issues in the middle east.

Sums up a real need for constitutional change is our own SU.

Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) has a growing engagement problem that needs to be addressed. Whether shown through low election turnouts, unfilled class rep positions, or a campaign for the right to opt out, it is clearly a problem which the SU can no longer turn a blind eye. One me...

The SUSI grant has failed to increase to accommodate increased costs and inflation. Should this be at the forefront of the student rights movement along with housing, s*xual health and other priorities.

As reguards to the alleged abuse reported on this age recently I would firstly say the initial report was hasty bias and not accurate. For this we apologize to all involved and this connect to the post have been disciplined.
The alleged abusive behavior was in my opinion exggerated in the the posts delivery. Nobody involved should have been mentioned and the incident itself should have been kept under wraps til the su could investigate the points.
The officer in question was reacting to a highly emotional student who's anger could have been seen as treathening even though this may not have been thier intent. It was a stressful situation for all involved.
As for going forward we as a group will have to significantly tighten the reigns on who posts from within the page and get a full look at all stories before posting.
As for lessons for us all to take away. Maybe better preperaion for such emotional students is required. It may also be requires that he phone system is reviewed to keel the officers from feeling even being treathned.
I am genuinely sorry to all involved even though I personally didn't take part and I was fully against the post.

16/09/2018

Our previous post was poorly compiled by and inexperienced admin without a ffull understanding of our source. We wll have a full report on the information we have recieved, which is a first hand recording, after we seek legal advice and after we can get word from the officer in question. Reports of poiental impeachment came from a source not involved in such matters so is best ignored.

Should USI focus their time and attention on issues that affect students rather than protesting on international issues? Have your say

Leaders of students' unions and activist groups have said that they will likely join crowds protesting US President Donald Trump's visit.

The MSU Christmas day event was cancelled last year. A big factor in this, according to Leon Diop at the presidential hustings, was that the union spent a lot of money only for people to go to nightclubs down the town. MSU fest is essentially the Union straight up doing this. Clearly its time or Christmas day to make its return.
