Just back from a week exploring the Massif Central and the Cévennes National Park 🇫🇷, a new part of France for me! With UNESCO status this region embraces delicious local produce, charming villages, many, many GR hiking 🥾 trails and way of life that embraces simple, natural living that is deeply connected to your environment ❤️. The Faroe Islands is a self-governing archipelago and part of the Kingdom of Denmark comprised of 18 volcanic islands in the oceans between between Iceland and Norway,, connected by road tunnels, ferries, causeways and bridges. A land of myth and legend, hikers and travellers are drawn to the islands’ dramatic mountains, valleys and grassy heathland, while bird-watchers enjoy the steep coastal cliffs that harbour thousands of seabirds.

We explore this amazing land over 5 days, hiking Borðoy Island & Viðoy, Vàgar and Saksun Islands, understanding the culture and wildlife, dining with locals and tasting regional delights.

(The Faroese people trace their lineage back to Scandinavian origin and descend from the Norwegian Vikings who colonized the islands in about 800 CE. After the Vikings’ arrival approximately a fourth of the population settled in Tórshavn, with the remainder living in small settlements, almost all of which are on the coasts).

Starting from Leh in northen India we complete a linear trek crossing the himilayen passes of Zalung Karpo La (5200m), Kyamayuri-la (5430m), Kartse-la (5380m) & Yarlung Nyau-la (5440m) with an opportunity to climb the mountain of Yalung Nong South (6080m), followed by the 2 – day festival at Korzok monastery overlooking the majestic Tso Moriri lake. Korzok Gustor festival could easily qualify as one of the most memorable and beautiful festivals in the whole of Ladakh region. What adds charm to the festival is the attendance of Changpa nomadic groups who come in large numbers to attend the festival. The Korzok monastery, affiliated to the Drukpa lineage, was founded by Kunga Lodro Ningpo around three centuries back.

Exploring Rome until the early hours of the morning 🇮🇹🎈. Flying in from Tokyo at 21h we had the night to pass until our Geneva flight ✈️ the following morning. Book a hotel 🏨 bah non! We jumped on the train 🚊 into the city 🏙️ center and enjoyed a magnificent night running around the incredible landscape and architecture of Rome. Four ☕️ coffees later and I am at the departure gate bound for home 🏡😊!
