The Ka’amatan (harvest) festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving in honour of Bambaazon (the rice spirit) for a good harvest by the Kadazandusun and Murut communities in Sabah.

This is the city-level Ka’amatan celebration which include highlights such as the famous Harvest Beauty pageant or the Unduk Ngadau, Sugandoi (singing) competition featuring Kadazandusun songs, traditional cooking and drinking competitions, local food tasting and many more.

KOTA KINABALU: Come May 30 and 31, 46 beautiful ladies will be vying for the Unduk Ngadau or Harvest Queen title in conjunction with Sabah’s much awaited Harvest Festival finale.

📍 A town located in the Interior Division of Sabah, it is home to the Kadazan or Dusun Tatana community as the largest single ethnic group.

It is one of the gateways to Pulau Tiga Survivor Island. Kuala Penyu is famous for its beaches, especially the Tempurung Beach, Sawangan Beach and Sungai Labuan Waterfront.

Kuala Penyu is also a district dotted by sago trees which are widely planted throughout the area. In fact, the sago plant is such a popular product in the district that there is an annual celebration for it called the Sago Festival.

112km from Kota Kinabalu City leads you to the pristine Klias wetlands. Mosey on your way down Klias River through spectacular vistas on an open boat in search of the endemic proboscis, long tailed macaques, the are silver languor and other wildlife along the river bank.

As dusk settles in with a sunset, enjoy the sights and sounds in a natural setting as you have a sumptuous village style dinner. Show’s not over yet though, there is one more trip through the mangrove swamp, but this time it is graced by the secret rhythm of fireflies and their flickering lights.
