The last line is my favorite, about the resiliency of nature and New York.
Also,
The 15th anniversary celebration is called "Wild By Design," but that is not mentioned.

The world-famous New York City gardens offer a master class in how to grow and maintain a naturalistic landscape. Here are a few takeaways.

I love the riff in the middle of the piece about some of what makes our city special.

Gotham’s 400th birthday calls for a celebration worthy of the great metropolis it is.

Speaking of the tonight: Yesterday, as it was being set up, I was telling my guests next to its venue that it is better than Oscar parties because the Met Gala goes beyond actors to include designers, performers with outrageous and magical dresses, and rich people.

At that moment, the doyenne of the event Anna Wintour strides past to inspect the room. I exclaimed: "It is the party of the known universe!"

And she listened or heard it, and kept going.

I held off from announcing her to my guests*, but I pointed to my eyes and then pointed to her as she strode away. They got it.

I pulled my guests aside and explained who she is, and more about the event. They were very impressed. It was a nice way to miss seeing the Temple of Dendur.

*She wouldn't have liked that. She once saw me gawking at her in her chauffeured limosine. She sneered and rolled up the window.

As a policy, I don't embarrass celebrities. It goes against the New York Code, and I'm a New Yorker first.

Our tours owe a lot to him, and so do striped bass.

Would real estate and parks have developed with Westway? I think our buses would get to Midtown in half the time.

I remember the elevated Miller West Side highway, when we flew up and downtown in minutes. Almost literally: it was quite bumpy and humpy, until a truck fell through and caused it to be condemned.

Any time I'm stuck behind lights on West Street I think the stripped bass are saying: "Bloop bloop bloop." (Fish language for "Thank you for saving our endangered environment!"

He led grass-roots lawsuits that defeated plans for Westway on Manhattan’s waterfront and a Storm King power plant. His legacy also includes the city’s Hudson River Park.

I'm narrating about NYC's deep connections with Santa Claus, an historical webinar that touches upon peace (instead of violence and bigotry), patriotism, political networking, and prosperity.

Santa is naughty and nice!

This is not necessarily for children. If little Santa believers are along, please prepare them that this historical survey may not match your family's view of Santa.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's new European Paintings wing: WONDERFUL!

45 galleries, 30k square feet of new skylights (3k sq m).

Paintings grouped chronologically and with themes like: "Tiepolo and Multiracial Europe," and "Faces of the Renaissance."

There are nice surprises like decorative arts, musical instruments, and modern art juxtapositions.

At this point no one knows where anything is, and even if they did, it would be hard to direct someone. And the maps are outdated: their rooms are configured differently from how they are numbered.

The way around this is to use http://MetMuseum.org and put what you want in the Search. That's up to date.

I wish in site navigation was more intuitive.

As a Guide who does two to three hour tours of the entire museum, I will struggle to narrow the whole wing to a few paintings, honing a route that will entice visitors to return, because I only have time to show a few examples.

Some of my favorites: Caravaggio's Denial of Saint Peter in 620;
Rembrandt's self portrait and Aristotle Contemplating...in 616;
Vermeer in 614;
Canaletto in 644;
several women artists featured in 632 and 634, where you can find David's Death of Socrates;
Duccio's Madonna in 635;
Raphael in 609; and
Juan de Pareja in 625

I have pictures of some other examples.

I look forward to spending many hours crafting a compelling, efficient route with good sight lines, and developing heartfelt commentary and observations.

18th anniversary as an officially licensed NYC Sightseeing Guide.

Thoughts turn to my mentor Ron Tarablous and my trainer Lee Gelber. They are both in heaven.

I also think of my cohorts Nathan Cox and Matthew Baker who were licensed in that time with me. We are all still at it.
