Benjamin Yates is a Junior seeking his B.A. in Theatre Performance at Seton Hall University. He has performed in many plays, musicals, and variety shows. He was recently nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship and was invited to attend the 2015 American College Theatre Festival in Ohio. Children:
Benjamin has over 10 years worth of experience in acting in Children's Theatre and a few yea
rs experience in the directing of Children's Theatre. With the help of an Uncle, in August of 2013, Benjamin Yates and friend Joseph Colon began a small Children's Musical Theatre Camp in West Dover, Vermont. The purpose of these camps is to not only help kids learn about theatre, acting, and music, but to also encourage kids to build their social skills, team-building skills, and public speaking skills. Through theatre, kids can learn many attributes that will be helpful to their futures and everyday lives. These children's theatre summer camps consist of:
-Performing in small scale shows.
-Exercising the singing voice individually and as a group.
-Learning to act through improvisational games, acting exercises, and warm-ups.
-Building the idea of ensemble.
-Group games and activities (non theatre related).
-Exhibitions, demonstrations, and small performances from studying actors/singers.
-A fun way to meet new people and make new friends. The idea behind these childrens camps is to celebrate the undying need for Children's Theatre, and how important it can be to the growth, love, and excitement of theatre. Young Adults:
Still in an experimental stage, these workshops for young adults are implemented to help fellow peers and any students interested in pursuing theatre work on new projects together, learn from each other, and enhance all acting and singing skills. These workshops include:
-The workshopping of an original musical.
-The chance to better acting and singing on a higher level.
-Building a community of people to work on brand new ideas.
-An intense 2 week process, learning how to put together a show in a short amount of time. The idea behind these workshops is to explore the process of creating theatre together as a cast and as a creative team. Through these, we will discover several of the aspects of putting on a show. The reason behind the name "Third Generation Summer Theatre" is Benjamin's grandfather, father, and many aunts and uncles who are in several ways associated with Children's Theatre and have sparked and influenced his love for it.
