is a social business that creates all-natural, zero waste soap bars, scrubs and more. The company invests a significant portion of it's profits in the families of Las Malvinas II, a slum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in the form of food assistance, school support, higher Ed scholarships for young women and other special projects. Originally called Esperanza Soaps, the company started as a
way to create meaningful employment opportunities for low income families, especially women. The founders built a factory in the community and trained local woman to make their products. After COVID, the company pivoted to providing broader support to families and embraced a zero-waste production approach. has deep Dominican roots and creates handmade, natural products that showcase the best of the island and the families that benefit from it's programs.
For some kiddos like Yulissa, age 5, it's her very first day of school EVER, and we were able to be a part of it - helping Yulissa's mom get her everything she needed to make the day extra memorable.

Our 8th annual Campaign is live and inviting everyone to participate! Jocy, Martha and other moms in the community have a list of kids that need help with uniforms, shoes, supplies and more. Your Soap Box purchase allows us to provide critical supplies to these kiddos and ensure they go to classes with everything they need on Day 1.

This is our 8th year running the program - The beginning of the school year is incredibly stressful for parents of the community who struggle to buy their children’s school supplies like uniforms, backpacks, and notebooks. Our ‘Las Malvinas Back to School” campaign uses the proceeds of our sales to buy critical supplies and make sure kiddos at risk can start the school year on time and with everything they need!

I'm very happy to introduce you to our company's new name and design:
The Malvinas Company.
The new name centers the community we've set out to serve from the beginning, when we started testing soap recipes we found on Youtube. Personally, I think I was unaware how much I would come to feel part of Las Malvinas, and through this work go on to create bonds with families that will last the rest of my life.
Our new imagery will celebrate the colors and vibrancy of the Caribbean and of Las Malvinas in particular - the smiley faces, the streets teeming with people, the music, the beautiful and everchanging skies.

An important announcement to our community:
Dear Friends,
I've had a growing desire to renew Esperanza for some time now. The past few years have been wild - from the pandemic to family matters, and have forced me to consider an overhaul to bring Esperanza into a new moment.
A few major developments have led me here: Our soapmakers have moved on, and after the pandemic our customer base is almost exclusively in the US. Running a factory from abroad is a logistical nightmare and has no longer become the best way to serve both our customers and the community.
Taking this and other factors into consideration, I want to announce today that Esperanza will move all of its soapmaking to the US. Our Las Malvinas factory will close this month.
This is not a bad thing to happen, this will allow us to better serve Las Malvinas' families, our customers, and be much more efficient with our time. No one is being fired, our soapmakers are taken care of.
But wasn't the point of Esperanza to provide meaningful employment to the women of the community? Yes, that was our goal when we started, and as we got immersed in the community we also adapted to meet many other people's needs, not just our workers. Over the years, Esperanza has invested tens of thousands of dollars in school supplies for the kiddos, college scholarships for young women, food assistance, COVID relief, home construction funds, etc. We will continue to invest in meaningful and impactful ways moving forward.
I'm taking this big decision as an opportunity to update the company overall - soon we'll have a new look, new products and new ways of investing in the people of Las Malvinas, who will continue to be at the center of everything we do.

This is Jeffry Decilus, he's 7 years old and is on to second grade! Jocy, our lead soapmaker talked to the family and need help making sure Jeffry has everything he needs: shoes, uniform, backpack and supplies.
Families make a big effort - in rare and only in extreme cases will we provide every single thing a child needs, usually the family has purchased what they can and we help with the last push.

WHY OUR BACK TO SCHOOL CAMPAIGN FOR CHILDREN IN LAS MALVINAS IS SO IMPORTANT
When you live below the poverty line, like many families in Las Malvinas, it usually means you have, low, inconsistent income that barely covers the basic necessities. You live in the day-to-day, with no real capacity to save or invest. So when school is about to start and your kids need supplies and uniforms and shoes, you're left between a rock and a hard place. Many times, parents will have to decide to start one child on time with supplies and make the other(s) wait until they can figure out how to get them what they need, which often means they wont start at all, losing a year.
This is disastrous for the kiddos, since education is key in breaking cycles of generational poverty.
Our back to School Campaign uses our eyes and ears on the ground (the women of Esperanza) to find families in need and then provide exactly what they need so their kids start school on Day 1. It's a low cost, high impact initiative that has affected the lives of 260 children and counting.
This year is especially challenging - inflation has hit school supplies hard and we're hearing a lot of pain from the families.

Many families in Las Malvinas really struggle to come up with extra cash to get everything their children need to start the school year, and some families have 3 or 4 kiddos to provide for. Kids are at risk at not starting school at all for lack of a pair of shoes or a backpack. That's where we come in - we survey the community for families in need of support, and can give tailored help with whatever they're missing so children start school on time and with everything they need.

We're thrilled to announce we're launching a campaign to raise funds for the first All Girls Volleyball team of Las Malvinas! This is a labor of love of two women of the community that started playing volleyball with a few girls in hopes of enriching their lives and promoting sports among the children of Las Malvinas. The group quickly grew to 25-30 girls. They stretch an old net across a street every afternoon and play with used balls they manage to get from different sources. We want to provide funds for equipment: new nets, balls, pumps; and gear: knee pads and uniforms. We have Soap Sample Tote on our website, all profits will go to raising funds for the Team.
