Planning a visit to Paris this year? They've just updated their metro ticket prices and ticket system to make it way more simple and streamlined. The metro, train, and RER train all across the Ile-de-France region only cost €2.50 for a ticket, whereas the bus and tram are €2. And now, all airport tickets are €13.

It's official, the Paris metro ticket prices have changed and honestly, it makes a lot more sense. Tickets are more streamlined and costs are way more consistent. But that also meant I had to update every post about Paris where I discuss metro ticket costs and such. So I figured, why not give my trip to Paris budget guide an update? to celebrating NYE in Quito, Ecuador this year!

Chris and I left on December 28 and jetted off to Ecuador to spend time in Quito, visit Cotopaxi, Banos, and Mindo, and take a week-long cruise in the Galapagos Islands (I'll share that TBT post soon!)

We weren't sure what NYE would look like in Quito, but we quickly found out their traditions. Some of their traditions include:

-"Widows" of the ending year. This is when men dress up as women and in the morning, "mourn" their husband (the old year), but then are happy and dancing around as they welcome in the New Year. They also run around dancing and asking for coins (presumably for beer money later).

-"Tax Collectors" are people also dressed up and wearing masks. They will block off roads and go around asking for coins (again, presumably for beer later).

-There are dolls everywhere made from paper mache. These are later burnt at midnight to leave the bad in the old year. Typically, the dolls are political figures. People also jump over the dolls at midnight as they're burning.

-Eating 12 grapes at midnight for good luck. Pro-tip: get seedless grapes. We had seeds in ours and I could only get 6 down in the first minute of the New Year.

-There were fireworks at midnight all over the city! It was chaotic and fun to see the bonfires of dolls and fireworks throughout the city at midnight!

Would you go to Quito for New Years?

to May of 2019 and visiting the Amazon Rainforest in Peru!

It is no surprise that Chris and I LOVE wildlife adventure trips. In fact, we're currently on one now! But staying at the Tambopata Research Center in Peru was epic! We spotted so much wildlife including capybara, jaguars, macaws and parrots, frogs, and so much more!

The Amazon Rainforest is massive and beautiful! And we loved the lodge we stayed in with 3 walls, leaving an open wall to the sounds of the jungle! It took some getting used to but it was so cool!

This is a big year for Italy travel, thanks to it being a Jubilee year!

It brings in a lot of travelers to Italy, and particularly to Rome and the Vatican, as this year is a holy celebration beginning Christmas 2024 and ending at the Epiphany 2026.

This happens once every 25 years, and there are celebrations in Rome, the Vatican, and even in other places in Italy. They estimate that 5 million pilgrims will be coming to Italy. If you want to join in on the fun and visit Italy, and perhaps want to get away from the crowds for a bit, check out this unique itinerary that includes stops in Piedmont, Bologna, and ends in Rome.

This is hands down the best 7 days in Italy off-the-beaten-path itinerary for food and wine lovers including Piedmont, Bologna, and more!

It's my birthday! And the previous year of my life was nothing short of incredible when it came to work, travel, and more!

I was lucky enough to go to the Olympics and share in the unique experience with Chris as we returned to Paris, our favorite city in the world!

I was able to travel quite a bit with family and friends, including a trip to frolic around castles in the Loire Valley and go to Stockholm for the Eras Tour with friends, a wedding in Deauville to watch one of my oldest friends get married, and even explore Paris, London, Scotland, and Ireland with Chris and his parents earlier last year.

I've solo road-tripped the South of France, and made leaps and bounds with my French (it turns out a total of 43 days in France with many visits to smaller towns makes you have to get more confident speaking it!).

It was a year with some business highs, some definite wobbles thanks to algorithm changes, and a lot of time just believing things would all work out and pivoting in the process. I started a Substack and even a France Travel Tips | Paris, Provence, Alps, Normandy, and Beyond Facebook Group (have you joined yet?).

I'm so thankful, as I could never have done any of this without God, Chris, my family, and friends, and, of course, you all for listening, reading, and subscribing to the journey and caring about what I have to say regarding travel. I'm so thankful to be able to help you plan your amazing trips with my thoughts and advice.

In this next year, I'm determined to keep pushing, helping you travel more with my super detailed posts, and trying to adapt to the ever-changing travel scape. I'm also determined to take time for myself while traveling and be more in the moment.

Here are some photos from 2024 from my travels!

This is always a helpful guide when traveling with family and friends! So many cards/airport lounge memberships have various rules on guests.

Many credit cards and loyalty programs offer access to airport lounges and they come with different guest policies. Here's how you can bring guests into the lounge with you before a flight.

to this time in 2023 and visiting St Lucia!

Having a January birthday, I can honestly say that one of my favorite things to do for my birthday is to escape to somewhere warm and tropical. St Lucia fit that bill perfectly, and we spent our birthday trip relaxing by the beach, snorkeling, exploring a volcano and waterfall, and even splurging on a fancy all-inclusive resort with our own villa.

It was bliss, and I definitely need to get into the habit of escaping the cold for our birthdays (which we may be doing now😬😍)!
